Three star football recruit that is favoring Montana because he was told he would be allowed to play both sports.

1/20/2006
Senior Patrick Stoudamire led the way, scoring a game-high 32 points and converting all eight of his free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to keep the Pioneers from getting closer than seven points.

I just want to verify if we due get this guy, the Griz would only be accessed 1 scollie for the primary sport and the other sport gets a freebie or walk on recruit. Somebody who knows please confirm. Thanks

They count both programs with a schollie even though it only costs the school the money for one. I'm sure the Athletic Department would not do it unless this kid is good enough in both sports and wanted by both Coaches.

Why could he not just walk on in basketball and take the football scholie?

swill, that would be too easy
PS
what is this kid projected as for the fball team

If he participated one minute in football it would count towards football . Even if he started in basketball and average 35 minutes a game, it wpould not count towards basketball.

When ever a kid plays two sports under scholarship the NCAA says he only counts as a single scholarship for the university. Then there is a pecking order as to which sports gets assested the scholarship. Football is always assest first. If a player has an athletic scholarship and plays a down (maybe even practices) he is a football player to the NCAA. The NCAA does not want to get into which sport did the player play more in.

It doesn't look like UM is even looking at him anymore.....looks like he'll end up at PSU.

Portland State had a big recruiting bonanza the first weekend in January, as the Vikings program not only hosted several members of Oregon's First Team 4A All-State squad, but landed a few commitments as well. While Patrick Stoudamire wasn't one of the recruits who gave the PSU coaching staff a verbal commitment, the visit certainly had the shifty 5-foot-10, 180-pound athlete thinking about it. He's still got at least one more official visit left to take though, and then on February 1st we'll know if he'll be staying in-state or not.

Like everyone else OregonPreps.com has talked to in regards to the weekend of the 6th-7th, Stoudamire thoroughly enjoyed himself during his time on PSU's campus.

"It was tyte - I really liked it," Stoudamire said. "The players were pretty cool, and I was (hosted by) Aaron Dickson. What impressed me the most was probably how the players talked about the coaches and said that they were tight."

On his visit, Stoudamire not only hung out with the team and chatted with the coaches, but also learned more about what future would lie ahead for him at PSU should he decide to become a Viking. He's looking for the opportunity to play both football and basketball in college, and Portland State will allow him to do just that. That was certainly music to Stoudamire's ears and he definitely likes PSU, but he still has another official visit to take before making any decisions.

"I'm going to Western Illinois (the weekend of Jan. 27) - they've given me an offer to play both (sports)," Stoudamire said. "I don't know too much about them except that they put a lot of guys in the NFL. But I'll go there and check it out. It's probably going to come down to the coaches and playing time."

Stoudamire indicated that he hasn't heard recently from Air Force or Montana, and that it doesn't appear as if a visit to Connecticut will happen this weekend. Stay tuned to OregonPreps.com for the latest on Stoudamire and other members from the Class of 2006.

Yeah it certainly sounds like Montana cooled on him. We must be overstocked at his position I would reckon.

You can get two scholarships-

You can spend the second one at the Weber State bookstore!

SNAP!

Dont know when that quote was made, but this one was after the PSU visit...

Add football: Another undecided football recruit is Centennial senior Patrick Stoudamire Jr. Stoudamire, who was a first-team all-state defensive back and first-team all-conference quarterback, took an official visit to Portland State last weekend and is scheduled to take one to Western Illinois on Jan. 28-29.

Stoudamire, who is an all-conference guard for the Eagles basketball team, is also expected to visit Montana, Air Force and possibly Connecticut.
