Patience will be tested in pressure-packed Griz season

Two things I took away from this great article that make me feel positive about the upcoming season:

Bob Stitt read Don Read’s book in recent months.

Bob Stitt said:
“What happened to us the last couple of games last year was one of the toughest things any of us have ever went through but it actually was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to our program because it hurt so bad, it woke us all up and we had to change some things,”

...which reminded me of this:

You really want to know the secret to victory? Defeat.

Nice write-up, Colter.

Excellent takeaway!

Great commercial. Very relevant here!

Green not injured as bad as thought. Expected to be back. Apologize if already mentioned elsewhere. Haven't read everything lately.

I agree with PR, I feel positive about this team.

I also am in the minority (probably) who think we need to give Stitt another year unless the wheels completely fall off and things are regressing.

I like Colter's stuff a lot, but I do feel that he (and most of our fan base) does not give enough credence to the reality of our talent on the roster. Losing four scholarships for multiple seasons significantly hurt our depth building and losing practice time hurt getting what depth we had valuable reps. People underestimate that impact that can have on a program, even one like the Griz. Of course there are great recruits in every class, and Delaney definitely got some very good players. But if you take the last three coaches (Robin, Stitt, Delaney) in terms of their recruiting abilities, Delaney is absolutely number three on that list. Couple that with the absolute reality that he was a very dedicated and loyal placeholder during the the worst of the storm but not the long term answer, and the scholarship and practice time reductions, and it is unrealistic to say that even with all of that, there were no drop-offs in roster talent during his tenure. And before anyone jumps all over me, of course he recruited some great players that were significant Big Sky players. It isn't an all or nothing thing. It is about depth and being able to take a chance on a guy because you have an extra partial scholarship. The article even said it, between the Junior and Senior class, there are only 18 players left. That isn't many.

In watching practices and scrimmages, it jumps out how talented the depth is on this team. But that depth is young or inexperienced. I think the future is bright, and if things fall our way that starts this year, but it certainly is coming and I would hate to see it blown up with an unrealistic view of what situation Stitt actually walked in to.

Not sure if you're the minority or not but I agree 100 percent with exactly what you said....give him another year unless the wheels fall off like they did last season. I do know this, the kids that are on the team now admire, respect, and have put their faith in this staff. They believe, which is important. They are excited, in good spirits and trust each other, on and off the field, O AND D. If there are good signs we are headed in the right direction with this group, I agree, let's see what happens next year. When Stitt was first hired I said 2018 would be the year. I hope at least to have a chance to be proven right or wrong.

I listened to Colter and Tootell's interview with Riley on today's show. It was a good interview, and Colter touched on many of these points. It was a good listen. I have always liked that show, but Colter and his knowledge of the Big Sky really take it to another level.

Just an observation, but him being able to cover the team from in town rather than across the state is a plus for Griz fans. You can tell he has gotten to know guys like Semore better already.
