Griz Fans,

If you havn't heard... Pat Kennedy has been named the new Grizzly Men's Basketball Coach. It will be announced Friday at a news conference in Missoula. What are your thoughts on this decision? Do you think he will build the team and make it be "the next Gonzaga?"

Judging by what Depaul fans say, Pat will kill the program. Other than that, I am giving the coach my support. Not 100% of my support. He has to prove himself first before I can do that. Especially, since there are so many Depaul fans that hate his guts.

I'm not thrilled with Hogans choice for the new BB coach as Kennedy seems to be less than credible from what alot of Depaul Fans have said. I'm supportive of the players and of the U of M, but if Hogan has brought in a chrony who is willing to sign one year deals, than it doesn't say alot about him. Supposedly Hogan was goign to bring in a hot coach to revive the program. I suspect that all along he intended of canning Holst & bringing inhis old buddy, who apparently needs an extra retirement cushion. Will wait & see what happens. Maybe they are grooming Tinkle to take over from Kennedy in 2-3 Years,if he hasn't destroyed the program. Will be interesting to see what happens with the recruits, especially Chavez.

I do not agree with the Kennedy hiring. I was hoping for a young, ambitious coach. I think the good ol' boy network is at work. I am trying to be positive though, as I welcome Coach Kennedy to Grizland. In his defense, he must be a good recruiter if several of his players left early for the NBA. Maybe a year from now, if the Griz make the tournament and maybe even win a game, we will all be eating our words. Saying "what a genius move."

Did anybody read the article? Think I'll hold any reservations I may have had about Mr. Kennedy. The DePaul fans may have a right to be mad. Can't say where the blame belongs though. Four of his players are now in the NBA. Those four would have played together this year had they all stayed. And by some accounts (sports illustrated), had a definite chance of taking the national title this year. If all had gone as planned for Kennedy, the DePaul fans would be writing off the '00-'01 season as a rebuilding year. They went 12-18. He lost his building blocks and went 9-19. It does concern me however that Eddy Curry refused to play for DePaul.

As a long time DePaul fan let's clear some things up. Yes, if everybody had stayed at DePaul they would have been a decent team this year. But all four players did not leave at once. The 12 win 00-01 team you spoke of had two NBA draft picks on it. 2 of those 12 win teams were against Division 3 schools. In fact in the season opener DePaul trailed Division 3 Lewis by 10 at home. All this with a lottery pick in Steve Hunter and a second round pick in Bobby Simmons. Not to mention three other top 15 rated high school talents.

DePaul has totaled 5 conference wins the last two years.

It's not about who DePaul's lost. Ask Kennedy what he did when he had those NBA players? Aside from the 00-01 team-- the 99-00 team had four NBA players. They barely made the tournament and bowed out in the first round. They didn't even win their confernece tournament.

And how about this-- this year-- Depaul didn't even make the conference tournament!! This was a roster with 1 McD's all-american, 2 top 15 rated HS kids and about 4 top 100 kids.

It's the way they played-- that's the mark of Kennedy. They're an unorganized bunch of pick-up players running around not guarding a sole. It's awful and you guys shall soon see.

Longtime Depaul fan here. Pat Kennedy, o the Carp as I like to call him is goodfo absolutely nothing! He can recruit but the the players leave because he can't make them any better. His one team that made the NCAA for Depaul had 4 future NBA guys on it. Bobby Simmons, Quentin Richardson, Steven Hunter, and Paul Mcphereson. They lost in the first round! He has brought noting but grief to Blue Demon fans and will bring you guys down too. He truly is the worst coach in Division 1 basketball!

It is now time to step to the plate. Kennedy is the coach and it appears the team is excited to have him and thats good enough for me. As far as the Depaul "unsupporters", the hell with them. Two years ago EWU fans were all over the chat lines saying how bad Kramer was and that he would destroy the Cat program. Well he didn't and now they are contenders. Let's give Pat a chance.

DePaul "unsupporters"? Go screw yourself. It's because of our unyielding live for our program that we despise Kennedy so much.

Go support him. He'll rip your heart out too. You've been warned.

I think it is extremely shortsighted to attack DePaul fans. We, as a group, are a very loyal bunch and have strong feelings about Kennedy because of what he has done to our program. He has squandered a huge amount of talent and has failed to do his part at keeping his players academically eligible. Anyone can forgive a losing season here or there, but DePaul fans saw a team that was extremely disorganized, selfish and played with no heart.

Kennedy may elevate Montana from it's current state (which isn't so bad) but he will never gain long term credibility for your program

OK - soooooo when did Hogan talk to Kennedy??? I feel that this whole thing is been in the works for sometime. I also wonder about Tinkle -- how much did he know about this before the firing of Holst and his staff???

IF Kennedy's son comes to the UM, will he have to pay out of state tution? Who checks on the contract that Hogan provided Kennedy?

Don't know if there is a term residency requirement but he will be living with his parents who will be residents therefore probably no out of state tuition. Kennedy says his son is a pretty fair point guard but they are unsure if he will walk on at this time.

Come check out the interview with Coach Kennedy. Its a lot of the questions and answers we have all been looking for!!

You heard it here first. Kennedy has picked his final three assistants. One from DePaul (not his nephew), one from Long Beach St. and one from Texas. He had two recruits in town Saturday; hope they left before the snow hit.
