Passing game...

Why was there not one pass to Walden yesterday? And what about three or four to Talmadge all day? Pretty sad when the only deep ball is thrown by our fourth(third?) string option QB!!

I'll bet that it comes out that Craig was hurt a little more than we know. If that is the case, then Hauck and Phenicie were right to not have him throw the deep ball.

This is my first post ever. Fire Phencie, pass the f#@$*** ball to Walden and Talmage, and maybe we win yesterday. Love defense, and love the running game, but you have to mix it up. Some days the offense might actually be required to score a lot of points, and to do it quickly. Phencie's play calling was pathetic yesterday. Worst case scenario, (which we had) of running the flippin' ball up the middle all day; try some play action, maybe a screen, maybe a roll-out pass to Walden, something off of the run other than...running. Coaches choked this one up in my humble opinion. Go Snyder!! ARRRRRRRGGGGHHHH! Thanks, see ya next year!

That may be, but our whole year went this way. And Oches is one of the toughest SOB's I've seen. He took some serious hits these last two games and kept coming back. Great job.

It is kind of ironic that just about every time our quarterback would throw the ball to Talmage and Walden they would catch it. You would think, that it would turn on a little light bulb on the top of our offensive coordinator head. I’m guessing the bulb was burned out all year or ever since he was let go from Wyoming. I personally hope that Coach Phencie is not here next year. I was very skeptical on him (Phencie) coming here. Why would any top notched I-AA school want a coach who got fired from a bottom tier D-I school?? Hey I heard that Idaho’s coach got fired, should we go after him?? (sarcastically speaking)

Let’s talk about the University of Montana. Why would any quarterback want to come here to hand the ball off all day long in this present system we have in place. Anybody can do that. What a waste of talent on the quarterback and wide receiver positions. We are going to lose recruits if we keep that system in place. A change is in order now starting with the offensive coordinator!!!!

I agree. Pass the damn ball to Walden/Talmage, let the ball go and let them get it. Cheese an Rice!! Its not like to many people are going to out jump a person thats a foot taller then em.

Again....I wonder if we are barkin up the wrong tree. Phenicie did not seem like a conservative coach when he was at Cal. Northridge or Wyoming.

I think that perhaps Hauck is the one who has told Rob, look....I want this team to be a defensive, ball posession, field position type of team. I do not want us to take any chances....lets just run the ball, and punt it if we have to.

I hope this will change next year....but I have my Doubt. I think if you ran a fan poll we would find that.....Griz fans would rather lose kickin in the front door with both guns blazin than to win by runnin out the back door. Plus, I think we would win more by kickin down the door with both guns blazin.

i believe that craig ochs is a solid quarterback, and would be a good fit for the griz next year. his numbers are so-so this year, but as a quarterback, what type of groove can you get in when you throw the ball once every 6 possessions. then we get to the end of the game and are behind and have to throw to catch up our qb is not warm because he has handed the ball off all game.

Our coaching staff doesnt know what a deep pass is. There definition of a deep pass is putting the qb in shot gun (whoever it is) and handing the ball off to a running back on 3rd down. Our offensive coordinator is terrible! Even the Western Illinois players said it in the papers that our offense is so predictable. Its pathetic!

Geaux, and others, what it comes down to is that Phenicie likes to throw deep, but in most cases defences took that away by playing 3 deep zones or very good man coverage.
the Griz went deep alot vs ISU and with success because ISU has horrible cbs and they couldn't cover Talmage without interfering him.

Most teams give us the intermediate passes, but we've not used it much. We did vs WIU some and it worked great when we did, but we didn't use it much.
So, if the deep ball is taken way by D and the intermediate isn't a favorite tool of the OC that only leaves horizontal passing game and that's weak and gimmikie.
and that's mostly what we've seen.

Still, i think it is hauck who likes to be conservative on offense.
There's nothing wrong with that per se, but we've gone overboard it seems.

You arm chair coaches are hilarious. Hindsight is 20/20. I have no details of the game but you got beat plain and simple. You're not going to win every game and be glad that you had a shot at the title. Yes I know expectations are high, you only expect to win the BSC every year and win the national title.

Actually 1peat, most of what we're basing our discussion on is an accumulation of what happened throughout the season.
This one game is just a microcosom of that.
