Pass Protection

Poor examples of protection. He held onto the ball forever, afraid to throw into coverage after the int., so just gave up the game without trying. He could have thrown it away or given a receiver a chance to make a play. Freshman.

Those two plays seem to "define" Brown for a bunch of folks on here. Backed up at the 25 or so with little to no time left and an 8 man prevent defense and OL that didn't allow him to "hold onto the ball forever" against a 3 man rush! If only he just throws up a couple miracle bombs under pressure to no one open and Griz go score a touchdown! Watch any game at any level. Ever heard of Hail Marys? They don't happen often and never from your own 25 yard line with no time to pass and no open receivers.

"So just gave up the game without even trying." One of the weaker statements I've ever read on EGriz!

The hail mary has 100% chance of NOT happening if you never release the ball, Mouse. You said it yourself. THREE man rush, yet in TWO plays he never let go of the ball. So yeah, sue me if THAT defines Brown (at this stage of his career) for me.

This. As I have said before, if Brown is the future of Griz football, I am more than a bit concerned.

No question about it.......if Cam or any of a couple hundred other QB's in the country were in that game in that position on those two plays with a big pass rush and no one open.....Griz would have easily completed a couple 40 yarders and won that damn game!

Brown didn't even throw it up (or "release the ball" ....sounds so footballish of you!!!) desperately to no one! So..."he just gave up the game without even trying".

I did say it....the 3 man rush put much more pressure than it should have and no one was open with 8 covering! Was were really expecting a touchdown on that drive?

Using a last second desperation moment that maybe Aaron Rodgers could have pulled out seems a weird "defining" moment for a redshirt freshman FCS QB to me.

Against Sac, the last two plays (where Brown was sacked) they only sent 3. So yes, frustrating.

Oh, so it's Brown's fault that the defense was on top of him in about 1.5 seconds, huh? I have to laugh at posters suggesting that Brown never step-up into the pocket. What pocket? On many pass plays, the pressure came from the middle, as our center and guards were getting schooled. There is no pocket to step-up into if the pressure comes from the middle. I watched about 3/4 of the SUU game again, and there was rarely a pocket created by our line.

Well, you're welcome to your defining moment, I get to chose mine. Until he proves different.

AzGrizFan hates Kris Brown, and never misses an opportunity to slam him. We get it, dude, you hate Brown. Am still waiting for him to comment on the fact that Humphrey fumbled on his very first snap, after AZGrizFan went on-and-on about how Brown fumbled all of the time.

And also still waiting for a comment from him on Brown's second-half run of 14-15 passing. Has Humphrey ever had a completion percentage that good? Finally, I still want to hear how awesome Humphrey would have been as a 19-year old freshman starter, 5 years ago. I'm sure AZGrizFan believes he would have lit-up the scoreboard like a pin-ball machine, which makes one wonder why Cam couldn't win the starting QB job until his sixth year of playing college football. Five seasons of missed excellence wasted! Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah and that weaker statement unfortunately hit the nail on the head. With 14 seconds and against a prevent, you don't take a sack under any circumstances. He did it twice. Never gave a receiver a chance to make a play; didn't even throw it out of bounds. There are a lot of reasons to defend Brown as a freshman QB, mental mistakes like this back-to-back are not the best ones. He seemed frozen from the previous int.

As I said, there are real reasons to tout Brown, this being a good example. Trying to defend his last two plays in the SacSt game is not one. Yet you try.

I have to laugh at posters claiming that the SacSt prevent allowed Brown only 1.5 seconds in the last two plays of the game.

I am not into focusing on couple of poor decisions on plays to evaluate QB. I could cherry-pick many bad plays that Cam has made in every game he has played in.

I look for solid QB attributes to build on. I discount a few bad decisions due to inexperience. It is very obvious that, if the O-line gives Brown time, he makes great throws and is very accurate. That's all I need to know. Why don't you show me where I tried to defend Brown on the last two plays. You can't because I never did.

Your post, 4:28 today speaks for itself.

I don’t hate the kid and I hope he has a marvelous career at UM. But YOU were the one who insisted Brown was ALREADY better than Humphrey—even before the season started. Now you want to backpedal like a mofo and lean on the excuse he’s a ‘19 year old freshman (despite the fact he’s a 21 year old JUNIOR, having graduated HS in 2018) as some sort of excuse for shitty play. And I find it hilarious that you finally found a sliver of a game that had a stat you could hang your hat on…congratulations. Face it: If we are stuck with Brown the rest of the year, it won’t matter whether we miraculously beat the ‘scats or not, because we aren’t going anywhere in the playoffs. And its not because he’s not capable. It’s because he’s not READY. I guess the difference between you and me is you’re willing to sacrifice this season for next season. I’m not.
