Paper: Tinkle has strong interest in OSU job

Any correlation between Tinkle looking PAC-10 and KD leaving town? Do you suppose his players knew he was after it?

If I were Tinkle I'd wait for a better opportunity. The OSU job is a bad one for the many reasons mentioned. Hell, they haven't done anything noteworthy since Ralph Miller was there, and that ended with the 1980s.

I think this is almost similar to a Ken Bone situation. If Tinkle just wants to make more money and have the clout of being a PAC-12 coach, then take the job and get the longest contract that you possibly can. If this is a next step in growing his career, he may want to pass. Corvallis and Pullman are places that are really, really hard to succeed in. Coming from the Big Sky, you may be taking a step forward, only to take a few steps back in the future.

Hard to pass up pac 12 money. Also, I'd imagine osu would be willing to be patient and give him time to build a program. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out, as a cat fan I always respected tinkle, but sure wouldn't be sad to see him go.

I think most us knew this day would eventually come. If it now, it will happen within the next few years. With that said, Wayne is in a really great position. He has much more to gain and nothing to lose by doing this. I say this because of how he has conducted himself, and what he is at Montana. I for one think he will do a great job at Oregon State. However, if by chance he does not get it done there, I am sure he would be welcomed back with open arms at Montana.

If he does get the OSU job, I do hope Haslam does all necessary to get Decuire (sp?) to Montana for next 4 to 7 years. If not Decuire, I'd love to see Freddie Owens back as head coach. I'd be very pleased with either of those 2. I'm sure Metzger Jones and Rupp would each be interested in the job too.

Either way, I am looking forward to OSU making their decision official.

Hmmm....coach denies contact, coach now finalist for job.....

Ahem, this is the typical stuff.....the carousel spins on

Most recent update. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24566465/oregon-state-close-to-making-hire" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis has told members of the school's men's basketball team that he hopes to announce a new head coach Monday, according to a report from The Oregonian, and a source told CBSSports.com that Montana's Wayne Tinkle is expected to get the job.

A formal announcement could come late Sunday.

John Canzano, a columnist at The Oregonian, tweeted Sunday that it will be Tinkle.

Arizona assistant Damon Stoudamire was previously considered the leading candidate after negotiations broke down between Oregon State and former UCLA coach Ben Howland, and sources told CBSSports.com that Stoudamire and De Carolis did talk by phone. But things never went farther than that, sources told CBSSports.com.

Oregon State is replacing Craig Robinson.

He was fired earlier this month after six seasons.

Found this on Twitter too. https://twitter.com/BeaverBlitz?original_referer=https%3A%2F%2Foregonstate.rivals.com%2Fdefault.asp&tw_i=468197609039884288&tw_p=embeddedtimeline&tw_w=442285757990846465" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Congratulations to Wayne Tinkle. If they give him what he needs to build that program, he will do it.

won't happen, end of story

Hope that felt better coming back up than it did going down.

Yuppers, not the only "expert" to chime in.

First spent some some time with Tinks when he tended bar at the Elbow Room after his career ended, Sunday nights, it was dead, just watched Sportscenter and bsed about sports.

You couldn't find a nicer or more down to earth guy. I wish him well and think he will be able to recruit talented and character guys and be succesful at OSU.
