Outstanding GoGriz profile on GrizWBB frosh Dani Bartsch

A great read written, I'm pretty certain, by Joel Carlson at Go Griz. It's actually a many threaded Bartsch family portrait (fascinating & often hilarious) before it settles on just Dani. Further proof that Dani will be a Montana WBB difference-maker and pace-maker... sooner than we all might expect. Go Griz.

Over the many years, the SIDs have done extensive articles on the graduating seniors. They always revealed things I wish I had know when the players were freshmen. Finally, the focus on freshmen permits me to watch their growth with more insight. Many thanks to those who have worked on these articles.

For those of you who are out-of-towners, Holsinger has the girls stay on the court for 15 minutes or so after every game so they can mingle with the crowd. And he has a Hoop Club chalk talk in the Sky Box 90 minutes prior to each game. The assistant who is responsible for the game plan that day previews the game. These might be things that are routinely don at some other schools but they add a nice touch.

  Agree, 717s7e... After the Utah State win, the entire team was on knees at the north end of the floor, signing posters and basketballs for a bunch of tickled young hoopers. This is also a common practice of Allison Lawrence's GrizVB teams. After every home match, the players turn to the fans to applaud & wave, then stay on court for 10-15 minutes, signing posters and volleyballs for young VB fans. A great way to get kids thinking about their futures... if not as athletes, then as students.

I have always liked reading these Freshman orientation articles on gogriz.com over the years. All the articles are similarly written so most likely by the same writer. Gogriz have been doing these Freshman orientation articles at least since 2016 but I think they started earlier than that.

Here are the Freshman Orientation articles for 3 of the seniors on the team:

Carmen Gfeller:

Sophia Stiles:

Abby Anderson:

Have they done similar articles for the men's team? Crazy to me how men's team seems to be losing its "buzz" in Missoula. Nothing ever changes marketing wise. This year someone came up with idea to get rid of north end zones GA ticket section so 5 or 10 "fans" can drink at beer garden during game. Is the young family with a couple kids and a budget not a fan base the Griz want to develop?

It's a different market these days. Both Griz bball teams rely heavily on a very graying fan base. Sounds like women's group is trying to make some outreach to younger fans......men better get after it too!

Isn’t Gfeller a junior?

No, never did anything like that for the mens. Possibly because the writer that wrote all these freshman orientation articles on new Lady Griz players didn't cover the men's side. Since all the freshman orientation articles are so similarly written, they all were started when this writer started writing for gogriz and may likely end when he leaves (hope not).

And 5 to 10 fans in beer garden seems grossly over-exagerated. Maybe 1.

Not going back until GA is restored, that's where all the fans sit.

Pointed this out in a prior thread. As an oft times bleacher creature with Geddes over the last decade for the bulk of the games we are guessing they'll lose about 500 bodies a game in attendance. Other creatures were often family groups with multiple youngsters that are not likely to buy reserved seats due to cost and less freedom to roam for antsy younger types. Was met with a collective "meh". Was also the noisiest corner of the gym many nights. Oh well....

Then how does one attend a Griz game (MBB and/or WBB) if there is no General Admission?

All seats are reserved. This has caused a bottleneck in the ticket lines in the lobby as people have to choose their seat rather than just getting a general admission ticket. This whole beer garden-all seats reserved thing is just plain stupid.

The game we went to this year the prices for the reserved seating was reduced quite a bit. Still probably not as cheap as GA but I think it was $10 a seat. I bought ahead of time and had not problem getting in but, yes, the line for people to buy them at the box office was quite long. I'm not saying I am pro-beer garden, just giving what my experience was for the game. There were only about 10 or so people that I could see that actually used the beer garden.

I did not buy season tix, but instead pre-paid for one specific seat for all available games minus the GrizWBB vs. Gonzaga game.
Price? A grand total AVERAGE price: $6 per game, which included the GrizWBB vs Cats game.
I consider that a pretty good price for a "reserved" seat with a great view. (first row, second level).

I bought a 5 game package for 5 conference men's games. $14 per seat....good seats second level East Side. Not bad......but bought if my family was younger and I was looking to take 3 kids and wife to a game that becomes $70 at the package price. Probably more per seat for one game. Back in the day think we all 5 got in for $30 (?) or so.

Saddest thing here is that they don't need these north end seats for the crowds that are showing up to games. If they make appropriate price adjustments to not gouge their future fan base (young families! and what about bigger UM student games like Cat/Griz?) then guess I can live with the beer garden.
