Our Ghost Front Line

We're all pumped by what Travis has brought to this program. We should be. For the first time ever, we think we can run with the big dogs.

Now we face our first big dog, Creighton. Not a "mid-major." A genuine college power, from one of the elite basketball conferences, The Big East.

But do we have a chance?

I'd say, not without a strong front line, meaning a true four and a true five. And not without any of our "ghosts from the past."

Krslovic--graduated.
Akoh--hurt.
Or Alphonso Anderson or Karl Nicholas--gone from the program.

In DeCuire's four-year tenure, these are the bigs we counted on.

This leaves us with three freshman bigs, and that's not a recipe for success in college basketball. Not freshmen in any case. But especially not bigs, who take longer to develop.

I think we'll show well at Creighton. I think people will be impressed with our team--our athleticism and our guard play.

I'm hoping we get a surprise up front from Anderson or Kramer.

But with only ghosts up front, I don't think we can win this game.

I have never seen Egriz so silent about what is potentially as large an issue as any on the football side. Just what is wrong with Akoh and Tim Falls? There is a total absence of news here. Are they both badly injured? It is a mystery just when the three toughest games lining up for Montana are about to be played. The total lack of curiosity from egriz is a surprise. Is it lack of interest or apathy toward the basket ball team? Just wondering what has happened to the fans....strange.

I think there's no lack of concern, at least from me, as I look every day to see. My thoughts are that TDc really doesn't want the knowledge out there. With my limited medical knowledge, especially sports related, I have a guess on Akoh but know zero about timmy. The only thing that is affected is seeding for the dance by these games. I'd rather have them both close to 100% for the conference so there's a chance for the dance.

First, as to Akoh. If you can't tell us the nature of the injury, can't you give us an estimate of how long he will be out?

Second, as to Timmy. His father is a frequent and ardent poster on this board. Not hearing from him worries me a bit, suggesting something more than a nagging injury.

So, yes LA Griz, here we are, into the most anticipated season in a long time, the day before one of the huge games on our schedule, which happens to be on national TV, and we are totally in the dark as to two of our top players.

Does this dull my enthusiasm?

You bet!

As for Akoh he has a nagging wrist injury from what I’ve heard. He may not play until conference is what I’ve also heard. But things could change based on day to day rehab. How’s that for an answer? Regarding Timmy Falls I believe he’s dealing with a stress fracture and that’s all I know at this point.
One thing you can be sure of this team will give its all tomorrow night and every night. Travis will settle for nothing less. If you haven’t had an opportunity to get to know Travis and his staff you are missing the next great coach in our illustrious coaching tree. If you local Missoula fans do not make it to multiple games this year you are not true Griz fans.

This. I drove 5 hours to watch the Georgia State game and will do it again during the year as well as Bozo. If I still lived in Missoula, I would never miss a game. This team deserves more support.

Stress fractures are often more troublesome than a fracture. That REALLY sucks.

I have said this before and I will say it again, even with football. Missoula is a town with a college, not a college town. Too much support continues to come from outside of Missoula for these programs. It should be difficult for an out of town person to find a ticket to a home game because the locals are supporting them.

This is all I could find out on this subject. By reading the Missoulian.

"Wednesday game notes: Head coach Travis DeCuire said there is still no timetable on the return of senior post Jamar Akoh. Akoh played in the opener against Georgia State, scoring 22 points, but has since been sidelined with a wrist injury. ... Sophomore guard Timmy Falls has started in Akoh's place but did not play against Georgia Southern in The Bahamas. DeCuire declined to specify why Falls didn't play, saying it was something the team was addressing "in house" but they hope to have him back on the floor soon. Falls is not out for disciplinary reasons, according to an athletic department spokesman. DeCuire also declined to say whether or not Falls would play against Creighton."

KPAX last night said Travis stated Akoh is a wrist injury and will not be re-evaluated for another 2 weeks. He declined to say more about Timmy than it is an "undisclosed" injury and it is day to day.

When Akoh reinjured the wrist, the estimate was for a 5 week recovery. To my knowledge, he will likely return the 2nd or 3rd week of December. Providing, Akoh is pretty close to 100%. If not, I am guessing DeCuire will be cautious and save his return for conference play.

As for Falls, people are doing a great job keeping this internal. I haven't heard 1 leak, even from those who normally know. I am guessing, it might be an issue with family, or maybe needing more time for a class he might be struggling in. Then again, I've never heard of Falls struggling in school. Hell, the most negative thing I've heard about Falls is his disdain for officials :)

Here is to hoping, both will return, sooner than later .

Game day, Bitches!

Go Griz!!
This will be a good measuring stick - Zags play them Saturday!

No, without Akoh and possibly Falls, this will NOT be a good measuring stick.

Yeah I love this team, but if we are running the same team that we had against Ga South and that has been getting killed on the boards then I see no chance to really be competitive this game. We almost beat UWash and Stanford last year because while we couldn't shoot for Sh*t our D was so good we never let a game (mostly) beyond 10pts, but our D does not seem as stiffing this year
