Other Tournaments - Southern Utah

Only 9th place Southern Utah is playing in one of the other 3 tournaments. They host Drake in a game in the CIT.

Why would the CIT choose them over UNC, Weber and others? Rage said Weber would accept but seems strange a 9-11 USU team got the invite.

Weber made the decision (actually, not sure if that was a decision or they just didn't get invited) over the weekend not to participate in any additional post-season tournaments:

Blurb from article:
Typically, the CIT and CBI look for teams with records at or above .500. Weber State finished 18-15 and was 11-9 in conference play, likely putting them on the radar for the two tournaments, but WSU said it will not play in either.

So Utah was the only school willing to pay for some more play.

Yup

I find it quite surprising that Southern Utah was the only men's team in the conference to decide if they wanted to prolong their season in spite of their 16-16 record. Hope they can give Drake a battle.

FWIW, the Big Sky has three teams in the women's NIT: Idaho (regular season champion), Idaho State (at-large), and Northern Colorado (at-large) and none in the WBI.

Well, when you realize the amount of money required to play in the CBI and CIT it really isn't that surprising.
