Went to see the "Grand Opening" of the ball park all finished, looks real nice, a very comfortable and nice place.

We had to leave in the 7th to go get my son, but it turns out the Osprey lost the game late. It was a bummer because their starting pitcher was solid in the first 3 innings, striking out 7 of the 9 he faced. However according to a guy I know who works there the D-backs organizations are really big on pitch counts, and his count was reaching a number that they didn't want him to go over.

As soon as the starter was out the score went from a 3-0 Osprey lead to a 3-2 lead, then a 3-3 tie and finally a 4-3 loss. Too bad, they looked pretty good out there.

It is a BAD OMEN when fans leave early. I say the L should go on Re/Max's record and he should be waived immediately to make room for someone who wants to be there. :thumb:

At least you all got some real minor league baseball. We lost our team and watch the Northwoods League now. Nothing like a night of watching guys from Bethel College play baseball on their summer break.

I did enjoy the fact that a beer was just $3.00, at a Sacramento Rivercats game they were something like $6.00.

Wonder if they cleaned the bench on the 1st base dugout from the mess my buddy left there last year. About midnight after the Griz/Cat game.

A walk-off grand slam for the Osprey tonight! 11 runs scored between the two teams in the 9th inning. Pretty intense stuff. A lot of walks. Fireworks show afterwards was definitely worth the price of admission as well.

I also went last night. Great stadium. Missoula should be proud.

However, both managers (and/or pitching coaches) should be fired after last night. Wow..

Fun to watch a walk-off Grand Slam though.

The coaching, or should I say 'teaching' approach of our parent club in Arizona is definitly geared toward developing rather than winning as evidenced by last nights slugfest.

The game was fun but with pitch counts and player evaluation as top priorities winning is down on the list. I have noticed that other Pioneer league clubs appear to be more interested in developing winning as their first priority.

The ballpark is terriffic, we have two great sports facilities for a city of our size. The area around it will also develop in the coming years and will be quite a bit different from what we have known for the past 30 years....

I agree first11. If I were the Ellis family, I would be a little concerned. While I understand that the primary purpose of the minor leagues is player development, those minor league teams are supported by fans. Fans won't continue to pay to watch teams lose when they are in a position to win, simply in the name of "player development."

You know, I was kind of thinking about this during the game. I had some loud mouthed idiot sitting behind my yelling how bad the coach was and how the Osprey sucked because they left the pitcher in during the 9th inning when he was getting shelled. And I noticed they had someone up in the bullpen warming up in the 8th inning then sat him down. So yeah, I think it's definitely one of those cases where the players are being developed and are being taught (in the case of this pitcher) that they need to pitch their way out of a bad situation. It's part of developing a mindset for young pitchers that while they might have been a stud pitcher in college, this is the big leagues and you're not going to dominate everyone.

I think the O's would still bring the fans if they were losing.. the tickets are cheap, and the game experience itself is worth the price of admission. It's a good way to spend a night out doing absolutely nothing, but still out of the house or whatever. You're actually watching kids that WANT to play, and don't make a lot of money doing so. Not the spoiled brats you see playing in the majors.
