Orlando Johnson, a 6-5 forward from Palma High School in Salinas Calif is being recruited by UM. I am hearing he will be on a official visit to UM this next week end. He is considered to be a d-1 player in football and basketball, but has decided to quit football this season and put his energy into basketball. He is a very physical player and has shown a remarkable ablity to to play great defence against some of the top players in the counrty this summer. He has great range to 3 point arc, plus with his size can post up. He plays Off guard, small forward and power forward in high school.
Loyala Marymont, Montana, Pacific, St. Mary's and Loyola-Chicago are his short list. 14 D-1 schools have been recruiting him.

i'd think this is our bobby bramlett connection, again. i'm sure johnson knows sharp, swift and van vliet.

The NCAA move the roster limit to 25? :lame:
????

I believe he was referring to lack of available scollies.

In that case, The Griz have the max. 13 scholarships and will have 3 graduating seniors, and committments so far for next year are big men Selvig and Qvale leaving one remaining scholarship.

I have recently heard that Orlando Johnson has committed to Loyola Marymount. While Montana was on his short list and he was planning on visiting the campus, he ended up cancelling the visit and is going to Loyola.

Mslacat,

are you buying that post about LMU? I know you are member of a lot of these recruiting sites. LMU message boards say nothing about Johnson.

I have checked 4 sources and can not confirm Johnson has commited to any school. I guess you guy's can watch the side line of next weeks game to see it he visited?

Although the news about Orlando has not hit the papers yet, it is true. A very good sign for the Lions. Anyway, I just registered both here and on the Nation. I've always read, but never written. Just figured I'd stick my two cents in.

i saw johnson play in a controlled scrimmage last summer. he was then just finishing his sophomore year, and he more than held his own against some older kids. he's ahtletic and tenacious but a bit stiff. i actually think he'd have far more of an upside in football.

the star of that scrimmage, however, was our own austin swift. he showed up a bit late, and since his team had just won the state high school championship, his entrance created quite a stir. when he came in to play, he really dazzled with his passes and slashes to the hoop. if there was one recruit on the court that day you'd want on your team, it was swift, not johnson.

Orlando Johnson, 2007, 6-5, WF, Palma

"Johnson was the most impressive player in camp under 6-foot-8. OJ is a physical wing, who has a football body. He has the ability to beat up defenders in the post and score or step out and hit the jumper. He also has the skill to put the ball on the floor and create his own shot. Despite the fact he has already committed to Loyola Marymount, Johnson had a chip on his shoulder the entire weekend, determined to prove he was legit. On the play of the day, Johnson caught the ball on the break, pushed it ahead several bounces until he reached the box area where he elevated over 6-foot-10 Ian Salter for a power bash that silenced the entire gym. Despite the spectacular dunk, make no mistake, OJ is the consumate team player who makes the extra pass, gets his teammates involved and plays the game the right way. There is no doubt he will be the top player in the Monterey Bay area and arguably the Central Coast Section. You can pencil him into the starting line-up for the next four years at LMU. "
FROM WHAT I HEAR HE WAS THE REAL DEAL AND MY BE LOOKING AT A PAC 10 OFFER FROM OSU AND OREGON. WE SURE MISS OUT ON THIS GUY. DID HE EVEN VISIT MU.
