Jason Hartford was the 3A Player of the Year in 2003
Since the right offer didn't come along after his freshman season, Jason Hartford is back for his second year at Chemeketa CC. The steady 6-foot-9, 230-pound post originally from Tillamook is putting together a solid sophomore season, with the hopes that his next step up the collegiate ranks will be at the best program suited for him. Several mid-major type colleges are keeping tabs on him.
"Jason has been playing with consistency," said Chemeketa head coach David Abderhalden. "The other night in our league opener against Clackamas he had 27 points and 11 rebounds. He's giving us good scoring punch, but is also helping with defending and rebounding."
So far this season, Hartford has averaged about 16 points and eight boards a contest as the team's primary inside threat. But since his high school days at Tillamook, Hartford has shown the ability to score a little from the perimeter, and he's doing more of that this year too.
"He's shooting a lot from mid-range and he's more comfortable now facing up," Abderhalden said. "But he's doing a good job in the post too. He's basically taking whatever the defense is dictating."
