Saw this on Twitter a few minutes ago.. Pete Thamel from the New York Times seems to think Dan Hawkins would be a good fit in Missoula. I don't disagree with him.

the ONLY reason Hawkins "won big" was because he had Chris Petersen. Hawkins showed what he had at Colorado

I'm not a Hawkins fan. I don't understand why people think he's a good fit for Montana. I do think Colorado was in rough, rough shape when he got there and probably isn't the best measure of what he has to offer.

Bobby Hauck had a tremendous record at UM. Would it be fair to say he showed what he had at UNLV?

No one wins at Colorado.. and if they do win, then the NCAA is right behind to slap them with sanctions.. that's a really tough job right now, and has been for quite a while. I don't really think you can lay all the blame at the feet of Hawkins..

good points by both of you,

I would be just fine with Hawkins. People think of him as the guy who blew it at Colorado and only had Boise rolling because Xenu was on his side.

Wrong.

Bobby frickin' Hauck won here, people. Not the big one, of course, which is really all that matters given UM's resources. Hawkins has 1000X more intelligence and depth than Hauck could ever dream of harnessing. Teaching and adaptation (not screaming and browbeating) are the cornerstones of his approach. He certainly knows how to recruit the area, and he is one of the guys who could bring in strong players who will have the ability to win while not seeking to build their own personal crime syndicate.

This guy would do well here.

How is someone from NY know what is good for Montana???

Well, when you're a college football beat writer writing for one of the biggest newspapers in the country, you should probably be pretty tapped into what you're covering. :twocents:
