Official Draft Thread

Who had the best draft/offseason?

Being a 49er fan I might be a tad biast but they have made some great moves and i believe they had the best draft/offseason.

They start out this offseason with a sub par team that has been on the rise for the last 2 seasons. With a young Alex Smith who i believe shows fairly good potential to become a good qb, Gore has shown that he can dominate the league but can he keep it up? and Vernon Davis who still hasnt shown anything but certianly possess the ability to be a all pro TE. Signing Clements, Lelie, Micheal Lewis, Banta Cain, trading one of their 4th rounders for Darrel Jackson along with their first round draft pick Patrick Willis who i believe will make an immediate impact along with a few other additions the Niners have put themselves into perfect position to contend for their division maybe not this year but the niners are well on their way.

I think the Raiders, 49ers & Patriots had great drafts. Miami and Denver are the biggest two head scratchers if you ask me.

Dan Patric thinks Green Bay missed the boat. No help for Brett Favre...running back or receivers.
Thought they had the inside track for No Moss since Favre and No Moss have the same agent.

Moss refused to restructure his contract for GB but would for NE. The Pack would've had to pay him over $10 million this year alone and no way is Thompson going to do that.

I personally don't think TT (Ted Thompson) "missed the boat." Here's why:

1. The "Brett Favre needs help" issue is being blown out of proportion, the Packers have 3 very good WRs, Donald Driver who has posted 1100 yard seasons for years now, Greg Jennings who was amazing until a high ankle sprain, and Korean Robinson who will be a great contributor as long as he keeps his nose clean. They've also got to WRs that are emering Ruvell Martin and Carslyle Holliday, Martin is a tall guy - Holliday is a speedy guy, former Notre Dame QB.

2. Drafting a DT shores up the Defense, the only probable weak spot on D for the Pack is at DT, Harrell answers that need. Marquand Manuel (saftey) did not play well but will probably be replaced by 3rd year player Marviel Underwood who was amazing in summer camps last year but messed up his knee. Everywhere else the Pack is set on Defense. The Pack also got a Rouse a tall (6'4") saftey from VT in the 3rd round, a good pickup.

3. Drafting Jackson from Nebraska was huge - IMO. He's coming from a zone blocking system so he'll know what to do and he's a great speed and pass catching back. They'll run a two back system with Jackson and Vernand Morency much like Indianapolis and New Orleans did last year.

Also the Pack stunk on special teams, they drafted some good help there as well.

I really think this was a good draft, it just wasn't as "flashy" as people were hoping for. Also if you improve your defense doesn't that also help the offense?

It's nice to know my Vikings have the full faith in Tavaris Jackson. I am not real big on the Adrian Peterson pick as he has been hurt before. Hopefully he proves me wrong. I like Sidney Rice at WR, its nice to see its a South Carolina wideout reunion in the twin cities.

On the draft overall I think the following:

1. The Browns I think pulled off a great first day. Thomas and Quinn plus veterans you already have in Edwards and in Kellen " I'm an effing soldier" Winslow looks like they could be turning things around in Cleveland. Somewhere you may have Earnest Byner, Kevin Mack and Bernie Kosar smiling.

2. if you are Darius Walker how does it feel going from a projected middle rounds pick to being a free agent. The kid may have been listening to the wrong people.

3. The Lions are still the Lions. No matter how good a player is the Lions will be an inept franchise until the Ford family gets their crap together. Thanks for wasting Calvin Johnsons next five years Fatt Millen.
