Offensive Line Depth

I know we are all chronically worried about offensive line, but I was looking at the roster a bit, and we have some decent size. Give them another year to continue to bulk up and learn, we may have a lot more depth than we realize. (Disclaimer, the last practice I went to was in the spring, so I'm not trying to pretend I have end educated opinion on their skills, just going off of size). Certainly not an exhaustive list, but some kids stand out.

We return 4 guys with starting experience. We brought in the giant from Cal (6'7", 312 LBs). And returning we have --

Botner (jr) -- 6'6" 285
Barney (FR) -- 6'4" 290
Templeton (FR) 6'1" 291
Dries (JR) 6'7" 270
McCabe (SO) 6'4" 290 -- Should be starting at center next year, I believe
Frietas (FR) 6'6" 312

Those should all be weights taken at the start of last fall camp, too, so those weight and strength numbers will certainly be much higher at the start of next year. Those are some good bodies to add depth if even just a couple of them can be good enough for game day. Again, I don't know their skills, but we will have some real hogs next year.

Good point! There are a number of others. I tried to rush through and take the biggest because I figured they will be closest to playing. Should have included him!

I thought I saw Michael Ray suited up on the sideline in Frisco. What about a medical redshirt year for Mayginnes? Is he over the BYU age limit?

Is there an assumption Casey will move over to LT next year?

Not that I have heard anyone say, why do you ask? Just the protection on the blind side of the line, or did you see something on tape?

Casey is a 1st-Team OT so I'm assuming he's the incumbent once Walker graduated.

That would make some sense to me. This staff doesn't seem to always put the most experience guy on the left, though.

Cannon Panfiloff also returns

Yep! I was counting him in the "4 guys with good starting experience."

Brown, Panfiloff, Grimsrud, Casey

Or the Cal kid if he comes in

More O Line men will be coming. Bobby makes them a priority.

This same staff took the Northern QB out of Havre and made him into an NFL caliber offensive lineman. We will be alright. We are deeper, bigger, and more experienced than the last few years.
