Who in T Falls would the GRIZ be looking at this season? For years, T Falls had a solid to great program, yet very seldom any potential GRIZ or Cats recruits, just a lot of Frontier type recruits.

Don't we have a verbal from a T-falls kid for this fall? Mackenzie Holt?

Coaches like to have their presence felt around the state (and especially in-state in a school that has produced Griz football players and is right in Missoula's backyard). Coaches don't have to be recruiting a specific player to make their presence felt at a certain school. Recruiting the state of Montana takes a lot of miles and you have to be diligent, especially with the small schools because you never know when a kid might develop into a star.

This is spot on. It is about developing relationships and having a presence so when that player comes along the coach will talk to you. It took years for the Cats to recover from Earle Solomonson saying that the cats can't win with Montana kids. It poisoned the well for a long time. Some of these coaches are there for years and if you ignored their program and then show interest when the guy you want comes through, it can work against you. It is what you have to do.

It is also smart to have the Montana coaches who played high school ball in Montana covering the state. It shows that a small, medium, or big town/city kid in Montana can play at this level.

For native Montana coaches, Ferriter is excellent. Shann and Andrew are good but Mike gets the relationship started pretty early.
