Odds are: Tournament to be in Ogden, Utah

Posted this in the Griz/NAU thread but repeating it here.

WSU beat PSU.

WSU could lose both games next week and still host the tournament. Rest of the schedule after next week are against teams that likely won't be in the tournament.

While the WSU win over PSU doesn't clinch second for the Griz, it comes pretty close to doing so.

I now see the tournament in Ogden with WSU and Griz having a bye in the first round. Catching WSU now is possible but very unlikely with the tiebreaker WSU has over the Griz.

Griz have a two game lead over PSU. Griz sweep next weeks games will clinch second place.

Here's what's left for the conference:

WSU - @UM, NAU, CSUS, @MSU
UM - WSU, ISU, @UNC
PSU - UNC, Boise, MSU, @EWU
MSU - ISU, @Snta Bbra, @PSU, @UNC, WSU
UNC - @PSU, @EWU, UM, MSU
ISU - @MSU, @UM, CSUS, NAU
EWU - UNC, Seattle, PSU
NAU - CSUS, @WSU, @ISU
CSUS - doesn't matter, they're out

----------------

Weber's 1 conference loss is to MSU, so I may be wrong here but if MSU and UM can beat Weber, and then both UM/WSU finish with a same record - the Griz should host. As I said, that might not be right, WSU's win over PSU tonight was huge for them.

Looking at the bye's then, I think WSU at least has a bye secured. The only other two teams in the fight for the 2nd bye is UM and PSU. UM has the advantage simply b/c they're up 2 games on PSU. However PSU probably has the easier schedule, UM plays the #1, #5, & #6 schools while PSU plays the #4, #5, & #7 teams.

So for the Griz (guessing here, correct me if I'm wrong):

UM wins 2 or 3 they get a bye
UM wins 1 and PSU loses 1 or more conference the Griz get a bye
Um wins 1 and PSU wins out in-conf, PSU gets the bye

-----------------

Looking ahead here's how I see the conf looking at season's end:

1. Weber
2. Montana
3. Portland St
4. Montana State
5. Idaho State
6. Northern Colorado

Did a quick check on the NCAA RPI/Braketology too:

Right now ESPN has Weber St as a #14 seed playing Marquette

The Big Sky is 23rd in RPI (out of 32 conferences), SOS is 20th. Weber's RPI is 112, UM is 151, PSU is 152

For the Denver area, roundtrip flights w/hotel from 3/10/09 and 3/11/09 stay, check out 3/12, around $300.00. That is based on single tickets and lodging. I cannot find how much the tourney tickets are yet though.

Would any Denver area GRIZ fans be interested in car pooling and sharing in lodging? I really want to go, and should have my tax return by then.

For Griz to host and be tied with WSU, MSU would have to finish tied or ahead of PSU. Also, you want MSU to finish above ISU. ISU and MSU are tied at the moment. MSU isn't really playing all that great. They did beat the worst team in the league today, though.

MSU is down 1 game from PSU in the loss column. MSU has to beat ISU or ISU will have swept MSU both games.
MSU also plays WSU at home and PSU on the road, plus a really tough road game against Northern Colorado. MSU loses 1 of those games, will need to hope PSU loses at least two games.
So, MSU would have to beat WSU at home, and beat PSU in Portland. I would also say along with beating WSU and PSU, MSU beating Northern Colorado on the road will be difficult for them.

Again, Odds are, WSU will be hosting and Griz will be second.

Marquette is scary good (I've missed that phrase).

They are a true NC contender and would be a really, really crappy draw for the Big Sky bid.

Although we would probably get a 15 or 16 seed. Never know with our recent tourney resume though.

Still would love to see what AJ could do VS some blue chippers.

Fingers crossed.
