OC Pease vs OC Rosey

FBS offensive rankings added to above post. Yards per game first, points per game second.

Outside of his one year at Boise, Pease has been quite bad as an OC. I realize he’s been a lot of places, but he hasn’t been a good OC at any of them except Boise where the credit probably should go to Chris Peterson.

So basically we traded a poop OC for a poop OC with more experience. Sweet. Looking forward to the massive offensive changes…
Your normal open-mindedness on display.

I don't know about that. I seem to remember seeing Liam Brown pulling a lot, actually not doing a bad job of it for a young player. You can say as a unit that they aren't very good at knocking anyone off the ball, but that's a different thing.

I too recall seeing pulls and seeing the athletic o-line get around. Hauck also talked about that in qb club.
It has been very minor; I want to see more of it.

Please detail where your optimism comes from, after seeing those numbers?

As others have pointed out, I'm not sure I really buy into the numbers all that much. The 12-13 Florida teams were terrible all around with an awful head coach, and the UTEP years are a little deceiving.

The 2016 UTEP team had a rough early schedule against some good teams (Texas, 8-5 Army, 7-6 Southern Miss, and conference champ LA Tech), where they only scored 35 points in 4 games. But the rest of the season, they scored 30+ points in 5 games, 40+ in 3 of those, and 50+ in 2 of those.

In 2017, they had an even harder schedule (#7 Oklahoma, Pac-12 Arizona, 10-3 Army, and NMSU that won a bowl game...they also lost to 1-11 Rice team, in all fairness) before their head coach resigned. After that, when you're already 0-5 and know you're in a lame duck season at a place you probably aren't that invested in, it's easy to see how Pease probably didn't really care.

Is Pease the best OC in the country? Definitely not. He just needs to do a better job than Rosy did, especially getting our playmakers the ball.

My optimism comes from talking to guys that played under him and think he's going to do really well. It's totally cool to be skeptical, though. We'll see soon enough. :thumb:

Well, you know what they say about excuses….and I beg to differ. He needs to do a LOT better than “just better than Rosy did”…

I love how any sort of additional context is immediately seen as an excuse around here.

After Pease was moved on by UTEP, they lost all of the rest of their games and scored fewer points per game.

Pease has an incredible resume to be coaching at a school like Montana.

Oh, you're right, I missed that. He was let go before the head coach was. So not a lame duck. Should've scored more points against *checks notes* #3 CFP Oklahoma and Arizona.
