What the hell, you get the ball inside to 20 and run three times in a row. How about going for the jugular on first down. No imagination at all. Let the boy throw the F@#KING ball.

Phencie need to let Ochs go down field. Damn, this is killing me!

I'm not as conserned about that. They get into scoring range and turn it over. Twice now. The game should be, at a minimum, 12-0.... 20-0 with to TDs.

Penalties are what have been holding us back this season. Not the O coordinater.

Jesus H. Lord Christ on a popcycle stick!!!! Another penalty on the Griz!!!
We'll be down to NAU with these kind of penalties. And the turnovers? Forget about it. Griz fans, we'll get our asses handed to us with play like this.

I agree with the turnovers, but the play calling still sucks. Phenicie is calling plays like he is scared to death. We have a QB who can obviously get the job done, so let him do it. Remember the 1:03 min drive Ochs put together last week.

I will admit I am no coach but why in the heck have we gone away from slants and middle screens. We need to get the ball in the hands of our playmakers, Segars and Heidelberger. These two are big plays waiting to happen but we do nothing to help out. I am so sick of seeing the draw play I could puke. If we had Don Read with the talent we have, we would be scoring in triple digits. OC get a clue and start being creative.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about UMGRIZFAN. The offense is about as predictable as a childrens novel. Green is awesome and I like to watch him run, but when you run the same plays over and over it's not real hard for defenses to adjust. There is just no creativity in the offense.

Predictable??? Did you even watch the game? The offense DID NOT PUNT ONCE TODAY!!!! The Weber D was back on their heels all day long. Except for coughing up the rock and some very questionable non pass interference calls the Griz would have scored a couple of TD's. The fumbles were unpredictable, but unfortunately the the poor calls by the BSC refs were predictable.

Would have? Should have? Could have, but didn't - The play calling in the red zone was to conservative, Why do are couches change from what's working to what hasn't worked , what's been tried and failed and mostly to what's been so heavely SCOUTED?

When passes down feild are working why do we change to short fly's that don't?

I agree, too many runs (and the very same run play at that) on first downs, however... Ochs still doesn't have much of a deep ball. When he tried a couple the were high floaters that begged to be picked by a very quick defense with a great secondary. Overall, no punts, balanced offense putting up good yardage, I'd say Phenicie is doing a satisfactory job so far. Give it a little time, by NAU we'll be firing on all cylinders and look out as we peak headed into Bozo and the playoffs. Man its nice to have a QB that can see the field and progress through his reads. That Defense of Webers was tough, good coverage on all the passing plays.

...by the success the team had airing it out under Read and Co.

Seems to me that while the OC could've been a leeeetle bit more creative (I did notice some of the same plays on the same down), in general, they're doing a good job. Ochs wasn't exactly throwing laser beams.

When they absolutely had to advance the ball, they tossed in the freshman and got some yards. I would think it's really hard as a coach to quickly decide which QB should go in on the next snap. And a player to be able to march down field not knowing who's taking the snap next. Kudos to the team for their effort.

I agree with the posts on the fact they didn't punt. They moved the ball, but they turned it over. THAT has got to stop. AND the penalties. The score probably should've been higher, but I'll take the "W," and get ready for next week.

Congrats to the kicker for the points!

I'll be at NAU. Unless the O is running on all cylinders, I'll be wearing "Depends" underneath my jeans 'cuz I'll be shi**ing little pink buttons the whole game!

Go Griz!

You guys who think Phenicie is doing "an o.k. job" are either on drugs, or know nothing about football! Our offense is unworthy of a high school program! Our passing game shows no creativity, and is so predicable that it's a joke! Our play calling is defensive (you'd think WE were the underdog in this game) and pathetic!

Case in point: First quarter, we have a third-and-5 from the Weber 12 yard line. What do we call? a frickin RUN! It gains 4 yards...now it's 4th-and-1. What do we call? A field goal! It you're gonna run the ball on 3rd-and-five, you gotta have the GUTS to go for the first down on 4th-and-1. These coaches have no guts! We pussy-foot around with teams who we should be blowing away!

Just wait until we face a passing team. Our secondary will be exposed, and we'll give up some significant points. Will our offense be able to answer? HaHaHa! Are you kidding me? We couldn't score on a Div. III team with this offense!

Let Ochs utilize his talent! Throw the frickin ball on first down! Throw the ball long more than once a game! Open it up, for Chr*t's sake!

You need to follow Arizona or Arizona State and abandon the Griz because they make you so unhappy.

This game was dominated by the Griz more than you think. Everyone said we completely dominated Furman and this game was totally similar.

Griz 21 1st downs, Weber 12 1st downs. Dominate!

4 turnovers? Very un-Griz like. There-in lies the problem or the score would have been much wider.

I am going to have to agree with the crappy play calling. Blame who you want, penalties, Hauck, whatever. When a team like Montana can only put up 12 point on 4 fields goals, something is not working. It doesnt really matter if we didnt have any 3 and outs. All the other team needs is a touchdown and Weber got it. They make their field goals and win. Come on OC.

I'm just curious, does anyone think that 12 points is going to get it done vs a good team? Weber is pretty bad. Green rushed for over 100 yards and that's nice. Only, in the red zone using the same play over and over allowed Weber to set up for it. 2 of the fumbles occured on the same play called at different times. Probably coincidence, but perhaps its a play that allows good angles for defenders-i don't know, i do know that going to the well too many times ins't good.

I think the O showed that it has good potential. The INT and the Fumbles were bad. Luckily, they came were it didn't give Weber good field position.
Unlike last weekend we started most drives with good field position, and that helped a ton or some of those FG trys would have been punts.

I don't think we got worse than last week. and that's ok.
But i didn't see any improvement on offense overall. Ochs was flushed from the pocket more this week and we've got to shore that up. ISU will put way more pressure than Weber did. and if they see film will pass a lot more and that wont be good. on the other hand if they run we'll stop them handily.

On a positive note, I think the team will rise to the occasion next week and turn 12 points into over 30. :D

We won the NC on that many points you idiot. What are three or four of you cry babies unhappy with. Except for the turnovers we dominated this game. The way the defense was playing I was never nervous all day.

I wasn't nervous either, but only because Greybeal wasn't smart enough to go to the pass more. Our D was great against the rush and usually is. I just leave it at that.

Anyone that looks back on my posts knows how I feel about our play calling (with the exception of calling a great game against Idaho using the veer, or who ever called that game).........2 and 3 from well inside field goal range...2 straight rushes and then kick the field goal.....not even 1 attempt to air it out! Hell, lets try a field goal whenever we get within range. Maybe kick on 3rd down just incase it's a bad snap, we could cover it and kick again!......I won't say anymore!

Ochs was great again in my opinion. His one INT was just that he took to much off the ball. He could have thrown it 20 yards out of the end zone if he wanted to. Actually it was better than a punt any way. They were inside their 15 and no return!

Well, we won and that's what counts. Well, even more! Ochs didn't get hurt!!!!

 I have not checked, But how many of you sugar coaters predicted the Griz would score over 30 today? I'm sure many will check so fess up and raise your hands

:drinking:

That's exactly why they aren't passing more at this time. They are protecting Ochs, he is the future hope this year and we need him healthy. I would look for more rushing again next week. Maybe a few more passes, 25-27. But 40 rushes again. The way we rushed today, we were hard to stop. I'll bet Weber is tougher against the rush than Idaho State is. Weber held NAU to about 90 yards rushing. And NAU has a guy averaging about 160 yards a game.

They know the chances of Ochs getting hurt is doubled if we put the ball up forty times a game. Plus they are looking for a few more days of practice with Ochs and the receivers working together.

They're bringing Ochs along slowly. Don't want to rush things and lose him the rest of the season.
