Huskies pound the posers from NM....

close does not count much for us, but it feels good to see our guys play with em both....

NM was good enough, but maybe not a 3 seed. Alford outcoached by both Tink and Lorenzo....maybe Allford needed some more time in the film room, or was not capable of breaking it down...his athletes carried him in Iowa City and his guys in NM could only take him so far..sooner or later coaching makes the difference. I think Tink got a lot better this year....

If we get consistancy, with our talent and using it--- will put us up to our levels of the early 80's and the early 90's

I listened to the local (Seattle) radio coverage of the UW-UNM game yesterday. In a post-game interview one of the UW assistant coaches, Jim Shaw, was emphasizing that tournament basketball is all about matchups, and UW just matched up really well with New Mexico.

In fact, he said (paraphrasing), at the time the bracket was announced it was clear to the coaching staff that if UW beat Marquette, crazy as it sounds Washington would much rather play the 3 seed than the 14. He had a lot of respect for the Griz.

Washington, an 11 seed, got to play an extremely weak 3 seed for the right to advance to the Sweet 16.

Cal and Gonzaga, both 8 seeds, had to play tough No 1 seeds in trying to advance to the Sweet 16.

The seeding worked out beautifully for UW.

I always find it humorous to see who is labled a "weak" 3 seed (or fill in your own number) after the tournament's first weekend, when invariably 90% of all brackets (and 99% of the all-knowing talking heads) had those same "weak" teams advancing.
