no shooters

we can bitch all we want about the refs cause we're justified, but there's a greater truth: we just don't have any shooters. no a.j., no staudacher, not even a michael taylor. nobody down the stretch that's gonna make big shots and take care of business at the foul line. we're big, athletic, play tough defense and are well-coached. just can't shoot the damned ball. the margin here was two, three shots--shots that we coulda/shoulda made if we had shooters. they had beitzel. they had a shooter. he made the difference.

maybe we've got some deadeyes on the way. maybe it's the redshirt, weisner. but we gotta get some guys in this program that can shoot the damned ball.

but very proud of this team. kept scrapping right till the end, even after two horrible calls. this program may not have a shooter's eye, but it's got a boxer's heart.

Ahhhh Ci-tay. The difference in our outside shooters is that they no not shoot with confidence. Beitzel thinks he will make every shot he takes, Selvig and Wood are afraid that they will NOT make each shot, and therefore they usually don't. Shooting, much like putting in golf, is 90% mental. Great shooters are fearless and confident. Selvig looks like a deer in the headlights whenever he gets the ball.

Selvig could make more shots than you with his eyes CLOSED. He is at 40% for the season on 3 point shots. Once again, you prove beyond a shadow of a doubt how clueless you are. Why don't you borrow a ladder truck, then maybe you could get high enough someone might notice your midget ass. :loser:

Citay,
Michael Taylor transferring is not the fault of the coaching staff, even you should know that much. Had Taylor been here for his SR season, the Griz would have 27 wins. You can't lay that on Tinkle. There are shooters on the way, so go get yourself a couple more hot dogs and try not to get mustard on that paisley shirt of yours. ;)

We didn't lose because of the refs. We lost because the Griz quit looking to take open shots. Even the announcers commented on it when they passed up open looks. If they couldn't get it into BQ, no one else was looking to take the shot.

I posted this on another thread. Probably just wishful thinking on my part but i think he does have the skill and the intelligence to do this:

What are the chances Selvig will be told to and will work hard at becoming a true post player for his Sr season? If he would muscle up some more and really work at banging down low instead of being a 7 foot 2 guard or "small" forward we could be relatively unstoppable next year. Why don't 7 footers perfect a sky hook? It did wonders for Lew Alcindor. Derek needs to reinvent himself for the team.

Little trend I noticed.

coming from Bozeman: " All we do is shoot 3's! why the hell don't we ever get the ball in the paint??"

out of Missoula: "why the hell don't we shoot any 3's! Why are we scared to shoot from the outside??"

:? A big time shooter would have been a very nice compliment to Qvale, but, it is what it is, I guess.

Still a good year and I like what Tinks is doing.

Gallatin, I doubt he will ever become a post player. He has had a lifetime working on the skill he has. It took Qvale 3 years or so to become the player he is today. IMO Selvig doesn't really like the contact or the close quarters combat of a post player. Like an antelope, he feels more comfortable in the wide open. He seems to be a 6'2" player trapped in a 7" body.

Yeah, you are probably right, CClark.

I hope I'm not, but he if he hasn't been able or willing to make a transition at this point, he probably won't. The post post position does concern me for next year. There will be a gaping hole there without BQ.
