Can't get it in south central Montana, either, if "Cowles Montana Media" puts it on SWX rather than KULR 8. I am grateful to get so many Griz games on tv these days, but this year definitely appears to be a step backwards for tv coverage for a lot of Griz fans in rural areas.

I think you might have to but a digital antenna. I'm not 100% sure on that tho. There was some comments on Big Sky Conference War Zone on FB about being able to watch the game on 191 or 196 or something. I wasn't getting the game so I called SWX and the engineer said to re-scan the programmed channels. It worked cuz all I was getting was soccer and pissed off.

I agree I think we have went back in time !! I thought we were a elite program. I'm watching the scats right now on nbc from billings. Starting to wander about our mighty griz program!!!!

If you're in a rural area, away from Billings, you don't get the game. We have DISH, live in a rural area away from Billings, and we cannot get the SWX games. Period. We are watching the Bobcat game in prime time on KULR 8, though. Big step backwards this year in television coverage for Griz games.

If you missed yesterday's game, it can be seen in its entirety here:

After logging in, click on "VOD" (video on demand) link and select the date.

The real step back in time was when the conference and universities signed the constraining network deals (like Root) that prohibit/hinder online streaming of the games.

WE could not pick it up in Livingston, but could have gotten it in Bozeman. People wonder about falling fan support around the state. Well we used to be able to see every game of the year on TV. Most of us would record the game even though we were in Missoula at the game. The the Big Sky conference stepped up and sold a package to Root Sports and we no longer have games available. The University tries to sell the non Root Games but the package is so small that fly by nights like SWX pick up the games and it is only available in the major towns of Montana. I watched the game on my phone at Big Sky TV as it was only way to get it.

Thanks for the explanation; makes sense --- and, you're right, we USED to tape every game including the ones we went to so we could watch later. Next year, when the tv schedule is announced, I hope they have the courage to state right up front which games will be on KULR8 and which will be on the Mickey Mouse SWX channel. I just tried to see which of the remaining "Cowles Montana Media" games will be on SWX - the KULR8 website doesn't give any info past October 19, but the October 18 UC Davis game is on SWX. Great . . .

+1000 to the above posts. Exposure is EVERYTHING. It affects attendance, recruiting and the fan base. I for one am pissed about not getting Griz sports network on the radio in many areas of northern and eastern montana. That's just while out working or hunting. It is inexcusable for those poor bastards that live out there to not be able to get it on tv in this day and age. This needs to become an institutional priority. I don't want to miss out on the next Kroy because the kids never heard or saw Montana football. The Cats of course are on every AG network station. Good job MSU.

I realize that this is not an option for everyone for various reasons (most notably a clear view of the southern sky) but for a few hundred bucks and a little effort you can get an FTA satellite dish and watch all of the Cowles broadcasted games at no additional charge. There are other games that show up too, including the Cats. I have helped a few people set a system up and there are good instructions available on the internet too. You can even get a system with DVR capability.

The only availability of SWX in the Billings area is with Charter cable; where Charter's not available - nothing. Neither DirecTV nor Dish offer SWX. It would be different if this BSC TV package had real bucks attached to it. It is correct that UM TV coverage has taken a step backward and UM admin has allowed it to happen. I don't see any sensitivity to the central and eastern MT fan base; it is having a negative affect. And this stupid contract is raising havoc with game timing as well. We haven't had two home games with the same start time; try planning travel for that. Now we have a noon start in October; again making it more difficult for those of us driving in excess of 300 miles each way for home games; we'll have to stay two nights instead of one, pushing the limits of affordability for many. We should probably change the name to the University of Missoula.

KXGN TV out of Glendive televises every game that is not on Root Sports. I live in Sidney and have not missed a game all season.

Big SkyTV, when they have the Griz works well for me..

For many of us in rural areas in Montana, trying to stream a game online is difficult. Although DISH (our best option) advertises high speed Internet for rural areas, in reality, it is still too slow for a good quality picture, and the picture can also freeze and stutter.

One of the early games of the season was available on Altitude, but it was blacked out!! So, the tv rights were evidently given to a Montana station we couldn't watch in our area of Montana, but it was blacked out on Altitude which we could have watched. Go figure. . . .

I'm about "this" close to going FTA in hopes of seeing more Griz games. I got spoiled in the late '90s-early 00's when every game was on SOME channel or the web. Very frustrating. I'm willing to pay for access, but not $50 to every different entity that wants to pick my pocket for one or two games or for really bad picture/sound quality. I have definitely gone to way more childrens' soccer games this year than ever before. And that sucks! PM me, GF, w/ your best FTA and set-up recommendation. Cuz I'm not going to subscribe to friggn' cable. No way.
