NIL collective

Ohio State is offering Marvin Harrison Jr. $20,000,000 to return for one more season. C'Mon Griz Nation, we can get him for $20,000,001!! (I'll put up the dollar!)

I post this as evidence as to how insane the NIL thing has already gotten.

"Unfortunately for Ohio State fans, it was always complete hogwash. On3 CEO and founder Shannon Terry tweeted on Monday that the reports around the NIL offer from the Buckeyes to Harrison is "one of the most inaccurate rumors" ever to be seen in college football."

They haven’t been well run to date, but Marcus welnel recently picked up the torch and relaunched ours with a new website. He’s currently running the collective free of charge….I would think once the thing gets rolling he eventually makes a tad off it. The big thing is advertising. I haven’t seen it advertised, which they need to do a better job of. Put up posters above every stall in the bathrooms, at every entrance to the stadium etc…..have the radio show over by the GSA talk about it and hand out information pamphlets. I do think that once people realize the power we have in numbers they will see how big of a difference we can be as fans.

They should be actively seeking out current and potential donors and asking them for a dontaion. The "wait for donors to come to you" method does not work. This has been a major gripe with me for years as it pertains to the athletic department fundraising. They simply don't do a good enough job seeking out donations. People who have the capacity to donate want to be asked and thanked. They should never be asking how to make a donation. It almost seems like the people who do the fundraising in the athletic department (not going to name names) just sort of expect people to get ahold of them to make a donation, when in actuality they should be out actively asking people to give.

The athletic dept and Bobby reach out to bigger and potential bigger donors frequently, to my knowledge and experience. NIL donations were discussed at QB Club this week. A letter will be sent soon to the Club. That’s over 600 people, I believe. Marcus W. was at the meeting.

I’m just saying that by only putting in an above average effort with the big time donors they are leaving money on the table. There are lots of people out there, I know several, who would give more if they were simple asked and made to feel like they were actually a priority. I don’t think anyone can honestly say we have a bunch of fundraising aces in the AD.

I’m aware of the discussion at QB Club (I was in the room). That’s a good start, but it’s more about diverting their QB Club dues to the collective. We are in an age, like it or not, where the booster generosity can be a huge advantage. Or it can be your downfall. At UM we should be at the forefront in the FCS.

I think we should dump any idea of a NIL and recruit like we do now realizing we are going to lose players to the portal. Take the (NIL) money and dump into our facilities so they are elite. To think a Big Sky team is going to compete financially against large universities is laughable.

That was a lie.
