Nickel package and lineman on KO's?

Back to this again this season, we cannot defend 4 wr packages with a 4-3 defense, the Griz need to throw some nickel package in there so they can be quicker vs the pass. This is an adjustment that needs to be made. Also, with PSU kicking those kickoffs to the linemen, it is time to sub in some guys that can catch those popup kicks, they have done it twice already. Hopefully our staff is smart enough to make these adjustments so the boys can go out and hang on to bring home this win!

Seriously. Don't we have a "hands" team?

Larsen,

You may want to accept that job opportunity as a Griz coach. Your hind sight /armchair coaching is uncanny.

Who is this Larsen you are referring to? It is Larson, and if you noticed after I posted this they did come out in the nickel on D after halftime, as for the kickoffs, it would have been a whole different game if PSU had recovered the 2 balls they kicked to the lineman, wanting them to change that was just using a little common sense.

We were wondering the same thing at the game. In fairness they got the tackles off the return after the second pooch kick and actually played a fair amount of nickel in the second half after only a few 3rd and long in nickel n the first half. Again in fairness with PSU's hurry up substituting is problematic.

Will heartily agree that seeing JK man up on a slot receiver often doesn't end well. I'd like to at least see if Lebsock or former safety Van Ackeren fit better. Lebsock got a few good licks in, looking forward to watching him in the future. :thumb:

Did you see Kantangota'a hit a pulling lineman so hard that his mouthpiece flew out, of course the running back ran right past him as he was hitting this guy, but it was pry the hardest hit of the season.

Really? Have we been watching the same team defend 3/4+ wideout formations with a olb who doesn't cover the pass well? Has JP a step and a half behind a slot not been engrained in your brain? Love JP as a run stopper. Not a slot coverer..

I did and he also put several licks on their ball carriers....I love JK, but pass D against wide receivers is not his strength (nor is it with our other starting LBs) If you look at the NFL LBs that can play the run as well as pass cover (TEs and RBs mostly) are All Pro. Very few are good at both. It's why nickel and dime coverage packages abound at the next level. I just want the staff to put our players in situations where they are successful. My .02 cents.
