Here's a link to a nice article from last week on senior Alyssa Smith. She organized a fund-raiser for a burn victims camp for last night's game.
"Yet she’s started almost every game since her sophomore campaign. And why is that?
“First of all she’s a great defender – the emphasis is great, not good,” said Montana coach Robin Selvig, who will take his team into battle at Southern Utah on Monday night. “She’s strong, she’s relentless, she’s intelligent on defense.
“She’s also consistent and she doesn’t make mistakes. I mean, she has little to no turnovers on the year. She’s a senior who understands the game and understands what we want her to do.”
Smith has hit some big shots in her career. She scored 12 points in a thrilling 58-56 home win over Denver last month. A week later she starred in a rebounding role, grabbing nine boards in a win over Sacramento State.
Yet when most fans and foes think of Alyssa, it is not her stats but her strong physique that comes to mind. Suffice to say, you wouldn’t want to tangle with her diving for a loose ball."
