Kansas City Chiefs training camp: WR Chambers weds his former stalker; nothing else can top that

August 11, 11:47 PMKansas City Chiefs ExaminerDan Rose

Even with a sometimes humorous tilt, I try to give you the straight facts going on around the Kansas City Chiefs, the 2010 training camp, player performance and more. However, earlier today a story started making the rounds on the Internet about a current Chiefs player that was too unbelievable to be true. Turns out that it is.

It definitely can be filed under the "SAY WHAAAAAAT?" heading and belongs more in the TMZ realm of news than the CNN/SI realm.

Chiefs starting wide receiver Chris Chambers, got married in Las Vegas, NV on July 24, 2010 according to the Clark County, NV Recorders Office. The jaw-dropping part of the story is that he married Stacey Bernice Saunders, a woman with whom he had an affair while he was married and playing for the San Diego Chargers. She is also someone that he filed 11 separate misdemeanor counts of stalking and harassment against in 2009.

Chambers asked the Court for a restraining order against Saunders in the summer of 2009 because she reportedly "launched an incessant attack verbally on me, and now my wife, her mother and sister." According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chambers said the texts, e-mails and phone calls he and his family received were "abusive, vulgar and irrational,".

Neither Chambers nor Saunders showed up to court for the restraining order hearing and it was dropped. A week later, Chambers filed for divorce from his wife citing "irreconcilable differences." Uh-huh.

In November of last year, the Chargers reportedly grew tired of all the off-field drama and released Chambers. The Chiefs, desperate for anyone that could hang onto the ball, immediately signed him. Chambers quickly became the most reliable receiving threat on the team and caught 36 passes for 608 yards and four touchdowns in nine games.

And now, Chambers and his stalker are husband and wife. One can only imagine what the conversation around the dinner table is in that household? The romantic in me hopes they both live a long and happy life together. The husband in me just thinks that there's no way this ends well.

The scary part is that by marrying her, he is encouraging other stalkers by setting an example of what to aim for.

If you stalk somebody, you could also get the person of your dreams! Persistence pays.

the restraining order/stalking charge was probably just an act, trying to fool the guy's wife into thinking he wanted nothing to do with the chick.

i highly doubt this is going to encourage more stalking, bud.
