NEZ and Student Section

 We've been slowly and steadily improving for 10 years. We are now amongst the best FCS schools in the country in every measurement. The Griz are still ahead in most every measurement. So what. Fortunately, most the people who actually affect the change aren't measuring success based on UM. We're climbing our own mountain and we aren't at the top - not because of the Griz, but because we have a vision of being better in all measurements - irregardless of what happens to the West. It happens that we share a state and a conference so we get compared, but it isn't the actual difference makers who can't get past the comparison. And be honest with yourselves, this isn't about one game, it's about building a foundation and growing over time. We have two great football schools. MSU's improvement doesn't hurt the Griz any. The rivalry IS more fun now and will only get better.

:thumb: A Cat post that acutally makes sense.

+1. Great post. With both schools pushing each other to be better than the other, that sets the bar pretty damn high for all the other schools who wish they were like Montana/Montana State! :thumb:

ya i have been wondering this lately too. some griz fans are quick to point out that the cats think they are the greatest ever. where does this come from? because our fanbase is excited for the direction we're headed? does ash come across as arrogant and we're the best ever? do our players act like they are the best ever? what is it?

I actually think your coach is coming across as a bit arrogant this year. I don't remember his exact quotes after the Chadron St game but it seemed like he was saying his defense was amazing, the best ever, didn't make one mistake. I didn't hear him say it, just read it, but it came off as being pretty cocky after playing a one dimensional division II team. IMO.

I think he said that the defense was "Scary Good"

I went to the cat/Chadron St game and sat in the end zone with the students. I felt awkward as I was a Griz fan standing with all of the MSU athletes. (They got honored for winning the Big Sky Cup) The section was loud. I don't think it was as loud as the NEZ in Missoula but at times was very loud. They also seemed to lose interest in the 2nd half but that is normal since they were playing Chadron St. My only problem is they kept chanting FTG. Got old listening to that all game. I was impressed with the stadium and the lights. Wish the tailgates were more lit up though. Very tough to walk around at halftime and after with it being so dark.

preaching to the choir here. i think it is ridiculous but it is pointless even talking about anymore as the people who get such a kick out of it are likely not going to stop. :?

i guess i'd have to see it. i have never heard anyone ever suggest that ash isn't a classy guy. that said, even if it was the case, i have heard griz fans suggest the cats think they're the greatest for years now. i simply asked who said this. what has the football team done to imply we think we're the greatest? my guess is nothing. but we are making great strides and are one of the better programs in the fcs. many of us are proud of that considering where we were a short time ago. and why shouldn't we be? if this pride means we think we're the greatest program in the country than i guess i'm guilty as well....

i agree many cat fans don't bend over backwards for the griz. and i concede we have some idiots just like you guys do. but do these idiots spouting off represent our football team and coaches? i never thought so. personally, i am very happy with how far this program has come in the last 10+ years since i was a student there. i have a lot of pride in their accomplishments. but i have never stated we're the best ever and i don't think our coaches or players have acted that way either.

i do find it funny that we are both the cockiest team in the state....but we also have little brother complex. remember guys....just because you say it....or because you read it on a message board.....does not make it fact. :thumb:

It's because I can't even talk to half of my friends in bozeman during football season. Whether it be current students, former students or athletes it's impossible for them see that their team can have any fault. Last years Griz/cat came down to bad reffing, and they should have won the championship because they got screwed by having to play SHSU and they were having an off week. It's been that way every year. I do like to see them doing well as it's good for both us and the big sky conference. But man, anymore I can't stand them.

This is where their little brother syndrome shines through. Doesn't matter who they are playing it always ends up back here with the stadium chanting FTG. Griz have a big NEZ, Guess who got a big NEZ and moved the student section their trying to make it louder? Griz got a megatron, and guess who went out and bought one a couple years later? Griz got a big helmet for the players to enter through, Cats got a Cat-head to run through a year later. The announcer says 1st down and the whole stadium yells back Montana, the cats do the same thing but with the bobcat growl. How is this climbing your own mountain or building your own program?

Did you watch the Griz/cat game coverage on the TV last year? there was a 30 minute pregame on how the Cats are the new elite and the passing of the guard and blah blah blah... on and on. This was coverage by the bozeman studio. Now do you see where we get it from? I admit it may not be by all of you and many of you may reasonable fans, but this is what we get to see from you guys...

...Griz announce they're getting lights, and the 'scats immediately/magically come up with money for lights AND rush to get them up first...

What i was told was that when they expanded the north endzone they actually installed all the wiring and structure required for the lighting so technically we started building first. We just did it in stages :thumb:

Actually, yes, we are climbing our own mountain as much as any team. Twenty years ago UM was starting to build a program and won one championship at a time, had one stadium expansion at a time and started making game day improvements one at a time. I find it really funny, honestly, how many people think that things like a first down chant started in Missoula. MANY programs do these things. When looking at how to improve our environment we look at many programs who have a strong fan base, winning teams, positive momentum and take things that seem to work and tweak them to make them ours. Sure, UM is one place we'll look, heck we'll borrow from Carroll or Stanford or Alabama or wherever if there is something that will help us get where we want to be. We do this just as Missoula does this. We also look at traditions and cultural things that are uniquely Bozeman/Bobcat and try to fit the pieces together. The Griz were not the first to run out of an inflatable...we aren't the last to get one...but the team who did it after us probably didn't have Bobcat envy. They just wanted to have a more fun environment and decided that was one of the things they would do.

You don't post very often, but my guess is when you do, you post well. :thumb:

I always hated this. Just a bunch of idiots that do it. One of my friends was telling me how some dumb drunk kid tried to start a chant that went, "UM rapes girls, GCG". Luckily it didn't sound like anybody else was going along with it, but still pathetic and stupid.

I have no problem with you guys getting these things. It's just funny they come in the exact same order they came to us just pushed back a year or two. Then it is followed up by many of you guys ranting how much better yours is compared to ours. You want us to recognize it like it's your own yet you guys are the ones that keep comparing it to us

Edit: At the end of the day, like I have said many times before, I am glad to see the program picking up speed. It only helps us and the rest of BSC so maybe more people will start turning their heads this direction and we can get rid of the east coast bias.

Good post thanks. One thing I'd point out is that nobody in Bozeman cheers "FTTide"
