Next year

Not trying to kill the buzz as I am enjoying our current teams play and success in conference but watching the replay of UND I cant help but wonder how we will replace Bruenig next year. I honestly havent seen anyone that will adequately fill his role as our big man. I think we may be back to where we were when Qvale left which is struggling to find someone that can at least compete in conference let alone against the likes of UW, Zags, KU. Do any of you see someone on the team that can truly fill the role with excellence?

Well, Martin has really exploded; just "wow" and no doubt gratifying after his experience at UW. Sometimes you have to just live for the day, and let tomorrow take care of itself.

Two promising & highly regarded freshmen coming next year, cmtgrizzly. But I agree with UMGriz75. Let's enjoy this team for the next two-plus months & speculate later.

We will have more talent than ever on the perimeter, absolutely loaded, but will struggle in the paint without Bruenig. Only one of the incoming freshmen plays down low (6-7 Alphonso Anderson), but I wouldn't expect him to star in his 1st year, & the current roster is filled with role players at the 4 & 5. Guard play should be stellar with Ahmad Rorrie (transfer) & Sayeed Pridgett (incoming frosh) added to this year's group, but we will have a huge hole down low.

I am more optomistic than when Qvaule left because of the depth at the 1 and 2. The level of talent at gaurd will speak for itself. Morehead and Gfeller will hold down on the perimeter just fine with the ability to shoot as well. Lopez has proved to be a good post defender as well as krislovich. Krislovich has not developed as much as I thought he would but don't count him out yet he may have a great offseason. The player that I believe will surprise us all is Alphonso Anderson. He is listed as 6'8" and plays post on offense as defense as well as any 6'10 guy, I believe he will fill in nicely for us as he has an amazing skill set! We don't have to play big with the level of perimeter play we will have, and our guards rebound very well, they will hold their own on the boards. Sayeed Pridget is 6'5" and Rorie will be something to watch. I don't see the drop off as much as others might though I do understand the concern. Breunig is a special player as we all should be at the games watching this young man dominate!

Echo what others have said. Breunig has been a delight to follow. Not just in his performances, but in his leadership.

Will leave a big void.

We don't have a scholarship available, do we, to offer a JC big? Will TD make a move to do this?

Different game going on in basketball now. The Warriors started it by "going small" in the deciding games against Cleveland, and now all the other teams are copying them. The game of basketball is not just about height, but about speed and quickness. John Wooden recognized this years ago. Even before Kareem and Bill Walton came along, Wooden won a national championship with no starter taller than 6'5". And last Spring, the Warriors simply out-sped and out-quicked the hapless Cavalier big men in the finals.

I believe this is the vision DeCuire has for this team--a vision we Montana fans are not accustomed to because never before could we recruit the number of athletic players needed for this system. DeCurire can--and has. I believe Alphonso Anderson will be able to defend the post, and that other than that, we will have perimeter players who can shoot, run, and get on the boards. Oguine, Rorie, Pridgett, Dunn, Wright--that is going to be a handful for any team to deal with, especially given the way Oguine and Pridgett can rebound. It may take a year for Anderson to adjust to D1 ball, and for all the new talent to gel. But two years from now we're gonna be just fine, regardless of the "bigs" situation.

I rarely make predictions, but.........I think Alphonso will start as a true freshman. I seem to recall a recent statement from his high school coach that he thinks Alphonso has an NBA future. :o

Good input by all. I hope we find a way to keep the momentum going. I feel B-Ball is starting to gain some momentum at our institution and if we can keep winning this year, make the tourney and perform respectfully there and then follow-up with 2-3 more successful years we just may be able to become a Gonzaga-like mid major. Nothing improves recruiting like winning and nothing breeds winning like good recruiting. That is how NDSU is doing what they are. They won, great players really want to win so they go to places that win like NDSU. In short winning breeds more winning. We need to keep winning.

Reasonable people may differ on this, but I believe our 6-10 post player has developed very nicely during his redshirt year. Now that he is playing as a freshman, I am pleasantly surprised everytime Bryden gets in the game. He has bulked up, is very much stronger, and he moves his feet well.

And, usually when Travis puts him in, the team runs a set play Bryden's way. I see a bright future for him, particularly given the great group of quick players we can add next year. I was suspicious last year during his redshirt year but am a fan this year.

You may both be right, I hope so. I haven't seen enough of Bryden in action I guess. Need to pay more attention to him. Overall though none have made an impression on me at this point that make me think we will make up for Martin next year. Samuelson looked really good the little I saw of him his junior year of High School but not sure how he has developed since and not sure how he will compare at the D1 level. Maybe his dad has been working hard with him.

You know the way way this team is headed, I am not going to worry about, not getting my wendy's chilli.
