Next Year? Hate to break to you folks but if you think things are going to get any better next year, then you better go have another drink.. We were one game above 500 last year and two below this year. We had more talent last season then we did this year and we aren’t bringing in any top flight recruits, the problem isn’t the players folks I hate to break it to ya...and lets stop acting like McGillis is the second coming off Kevin Garnett, the kid wasn’t even offered a scholarship to UM out of high school and rode the pine at OSU..A mark of a bad program is one that always looks to the next season and that’s what we have become...In all of my conversations with LK in the two years he was here I never once heard a comment about "Next Year"...He took the talent he was given and WON THAT YEAR! Hurley, Stockton, Taylor, Stads? You think these guys are difference makers huh? To slow and to short folks. You need ATHLETES if you want to compete at the D1 level! Ill take Matthews, Mayes, B Ellis, Dilouhy and Criswell and play you any day. Great Coaching at the College level starts with recruiting and comes down to game time adjustments and execution. This Staff has proven they can do neither! It’s only getting worse from here if changes aren’t made..

Portland States Coaching Staff-Ken Bone coached SPU to league title after league title, Curtis Allen played for four years at University of Washington, and Eric Harper coached YVCC to back to back JC Championships...UM-HAHA Tinkles never been a head coach before the last two seasons and is one game below .500 thus far, Marso's never coached a winner, and Andy Hill, Hell has he ever even played basketball? Hard to teach someone how to swim if you’ve never been in the pool. I think ill invest in Portland State’s staff.

Not that I am currently overflowing with optimism but 2 things newbie.....check Marso's JC coaching record and check back at the end of next season regarding McGillis. :thumb:

I'll have to admit that my confidence is fading. I had high expectations for Wayne last year when he took over the same team that Coack K had into the second round of the big dance minus only Criswell and Mathews and finished third in BSC play. I realize thet Criswell was a huge loss but Mathews was not that good IMHO. Also, shouldn't Strait and Hasquet be better than they were as freshman? Frankly last year was a bigger disappointment for me than this year because I didn't see this years team as better than last year and they didn't get it done then.

I am starting to think that Tinkle will not be able to cut the mustard at the D1 level. I will have to agree next year will likely be even worse than this year. If everyone would just lower their expectations we could all be happy.

2 things Griz Whiz....Check Marso's record at the U of M, Perennial loser. And if McGillis Matchs Straits Numbers this year ill give you and him all the praise in the world...So far hes done nothing in my book, LK didnt want him...

What do I hear? Hey man, a reminder, that is the last whistle for the train to Portland. It is for the Portland State bandwagon, you better leave now, and please do not return. We do not need you here. PSU is obviously a better fit for you.

As for your comment on McGillis and putting up Straits numbers. Way to make a comment that will obviously make you look good. There is no way Jack puts up those numbers. They play different positions and will have different roles for their respected teams. Jack will be expected to be our best defensive 2 or 3 player, add some perimeter shooting, some rebounding, and some passing. Basically will be asked to do a little of everything. Strait was expected to rebound, score inside, and play defense. BTW, speaking of rebounding, I will not be surprised if McGillis averages 5 boards from his 3 position.

As for Strait, he was an alltime great here. Replacing his consistency, and inside scoring will be huge challenge for this team. As for rest of his game, we can fill in rather well for him.

Not a looking to go to Portland, just envious that their coaches know what they are doing and ours do not. They are bringing in quality recruits and have excellent game planning and adjustments.

Sure, but take a look at the list of players that LK *did* want, and then tell me again how brilliant he was.

McGillis may not be the saviour of the program, but I guarantee you he will help improve the program. As will Selvig and Taylor and others.

While you and ape griz may not think the team should even suit up next season, I doubt you'll get much support on this board, especially if you can't even make an argument without personally attacking somebody.

Following your logic, instead Larry K wanted Gus Chase, Graves, Rundles, Swift, Vanderjact, and Van Vleit .............. how did that work out for ya!!

All of those guys were good signings (at least at the time), in my opinion. They didn't all work out but there's no way to see the future.

Chase was sort of a bust but he also could've been the next Charles Barkley. Just didn't work out.

Graves . . . I guess we'll maybe never know.

Rundles: A rare 3-star recruit to UM. Freshman of the year. Great signing by LK. Just because his sophomore season with Tinkle was a dud and might transfer doesn't affect LK's signing.

Swift: from everything I have heard he was an amazing HS player with tons of potential. Just didn't pan out. Personal issues?

Vanderjagt: So far hasn't been great but doesn't he still have 2 more years to prove he was worth it? Also, when a 7 footer from down-under wants to come to a low-mid-major, then it's usually a good deal. Wasn't he signed the same year that Andrew Bogut was drafted #1? LK probably couldn't have predicted that a 17 year old kid would have so much trouble gaining weight and refusing to red-shirt.

Van Vliet: A rare 3-star recruit for UM. LK couldn't have predicted an assault charge. He could've been a great player.

In conclusion, I don't think any of those were bad signings. Maybe Chase was sort of a risky experiment, but no risk no reward. If it weren't for 2 straight NCAA trips Tinkle probably wouldn't be in a position to sign the talented players he is today. I don't have a problem with LK's ability to evaluate talent.

Rundles was a 2 star recruit, not 3. Huge difference. Selvig is the only 3 star in recent memory.

Rivals does not even recognize UM or the BSC. Hard to find any recruiting info there.

You have better luck if you search the recruit rather than the team. Rundles is still shown as a class of 2006 3 star recruit.

According to people that know, Rivals is a much larger company and is more accurate than scout.com.
