Next Up 12/22 vs Montana-Western

Glad we get these guys at home instead of on the road, the Straugh Gymnasium can be equally intimidating as the Phog Allen Fieldhouse

1PM game time today....that should make for a huge crowd?? Someone at the "U" must have to catch an early evening flight out for the Holidays!

Who scheduled this one?

Ya... this game time makes no sense at all...

They scheduled it at 1 to give players an easier opportunity to travel home for their four day break. It also allows coaches to get out and recruit before the dead period starts on the 24. And there was one other reason that makes complete sense. You'll probably be able to figure that out if you listen/watch the game or check the box score afterward

I heard it was so Santa could show up and then have time to travel home and rest before his big night......

Yeah the game was a mismatch of course. But I think it was a very helpful game for the Griz. Mario got his feet wet with a nice soft landing. The Griz appeared to get much more comfortable from behind the arc. Their feet were set and they weren't falling off as they have been want to this year.

Go Griz. Beat the jacks.

Everett-it's easy to get your feet set when there is nobody near you. The Griz turned down many other open looks, as Western couldn't cover anybody. The Griz had an assist on almost every basket. There was always somebody open. That being said, it was a nice confidence booster, and Dunn, obviously, needed the PT. He looked terrible, but that is understandable. Glad he was able to kick off some rust in a meaningless game. Boehning and Moorehead continue to impress. Breunig had about 7 dunks. Seriously!

Still not sure, after checking the stats, what the "other" reason this game was at 1,Kyle.

Oh I agree completely, Zirg. But often with shooters, what gets 'em going is to see it go through the hoop a few times in a row. Granted they were open looks. But the Griz have missed a TON of those this year. Today looked better no matter how weak the competition.

And I'm guessing Kyje was referencing Mario playing, but not sure what that had to do with the start time.

Loved that TDC went out of his way to go over to acknowledge the student section, and then went to hug Engstrom after the game. Love the guy's passion.

I wasn't at the game, but one of the interesting stats to me was that DeJong scored 6 points in only 3 minutes of play. Suppose it was garbage time right at the end, but that's a bucket a minute. Was he standing under the basket and his teammates were just tossing it to him for some easy shots?

More or less, yes. But the kid has some skills. He hit a couple pretty mid range jumpers

TDC "gets it." He loves this school and this program. It was a nice gesture to Engstrom. He's beleaguered at the moment on campus, and deserves to be, but he is still a nice guy, and to extend the gesture to him is classy.

Did a nice hook shot in the Kansas game. Athletic kid.

"DeJong" is a family name in our family, a Dutch name in the Dutch community that pioneered around Manhattan, Belgrade, Churchill and, of course, Holland, in the Gallatin Valley. Gavin is a shirt tail cousin. Interesting history of that community. Strong, smart, tall, hard-working people. Montana the Magazine of Western History did an article on "them" in 1989. Mostly "Boers" -- farmers. I could go there and speak Dutch to the older folks well into the 1960s, and then the language faded away as it did in our house after my Grandmother died.

So naturally, I am rooting for him.

Be nice to have a forward who can play some tough defense, grab rebounds, and hit mid-range jumpers. Hope DeJong can develop into a solid performer like that. Be nice to see him get a few more minutes to help that process along -- if it's going to happen.
