Next Up … Road Trip (ISU, WSU, MSU)

Monday’s results made life even more interesting in the Big Sky. Of course, the Bengal win bumps them back ahead of the Griz. But who would have expected NoColo to knock off Weber … and by so much? That doesn’t change the position for the Griz, but it does draw the Wildcats back more into the pack.

The road trip that starts tonight looks pretty scary. The Bengals will be pumped after their road win in Flagstaff, and anxious to reverse the drubbing they took in Missoula. About the only plus is the fact that ISU played on Monday, and almost certainly didn’t get out until Tuesday.

The Griz badly need a win at ISU because – let’s face it – their chances are not too rosy in the other two. On the good side, a win in Pocatello and a split in the other two would be huge at this stage of the season.

ISU has been playing quite well of late. Playing in that small gym can be an interesting experience. They almost always get the most inexperienced refs to do games in Pocatello. Expect half of your team to foul out and for them to shoot twice as many FTs as you do. Also, they are playing much better defence this year due to some key additions and player development. If they don't foul Bannon out in the first half, or shortly after, You have a fairly good chance. If they get a couple of your key players in early foul trouble, it could be a long night for the Griz.

They will pound it inside until you are bruised and bloodied. Then, as you start to double down, they will start taking the threes.

If the Griz could get a split this weekend I’d be happy. Make that ecstatic. If they could win two of the next three I’d have hope for the tournament.

Not sure where you’re getting your numbers, Olds. In ISU’s last 3 home games, the Bengals have shot a total of 6 more free throws than their opponents— an average of two more per game than their foes. I’d hardly classify that as an anomaly.

Shockingly low number of fouls in this game for a #BSC conference game. ISU shot the 3’s, but poorly.

The Griz won in other ways, but by the numbers, the difference was at the foul line. The Griz shot 15 of 18, while the Bengals were 6 of 7. Both over 80%, but those nine points were the difference.

Yes. From what I saw, you got a good set of refs for your game. You got lucky in that regard. Your game at ISU was the exact opposite of what we got up there. ISU is a much improved team this year and can beat anyone in our league on the right night. I think it will be a barn burner in Ogden Saturday. Come on down with a couple thousand of your closest friends.

The difference in the number of attempts was because the Griz were ahead at the end of the game and ISU was fouling to preserve the clock. Their 3's didn't go in and our FT's did.

Totally agree. Was just pointing out the "artifact" in the stats.

In reality, the Griz shot lights out (almost 56%) on treys, and ISU totally sucked

Meanwhile, the theme is: One down, two to go!

GO GRIZ! :egriz:

Yep, there's already a game thread.

Still, I thought I'd bump this to continue the theme.

Are you really replying and talking to yourself? I'm concerned about you.

Thank you for your concern. Just trying to pump up a little interest in the Griz winning streak ... hoping it will continue.

But we've got to wait all day. Right now, there are a bunch of good games going on elsewhere, with an amazing number being televised. And I'm jealous ... one of the games on TV is in the Southern Conference. How do they manage that? (Not a great game – UNC Greensboro is pounding Chattanooga, 34-19, with 6 min to go in the first half.)

We don't have to wait all day! At 2 p.m. today the GrizWBB team tip-off vs. the Cats and, while they need an almost perfect game to get a win, I'm going to watch every minute. Go GrizWBB!
