Newest M's Callup

I heard from a friend that Adam Jones will be recalled from Tacoma. This will be a great chance for M's fans to see the possible future of CF. With Reed on the DL and only hitting around .220, this is a great chnce for Jones to make a great impression and earn a spot on next years roster.

They've got a few solid pitchers at AAA, but apparently the front office is happy with Pinata staying in the rotation.

so what will they do with Choo if they call up Jones, just send him back down to AAA? I think Choo can be great, but he hasnt impressed me since hes been called up (1 for 11 .092 BA)

They sent Choo back down today, called up Dobbs, ya need a guy to get the "skip" his water don't you?

More moves that don't make sense....

Watch, next they'll trade Putz for a mid to late 30-something guy with little to no talent........

(Grizbiz I know you're still steamed about the Cabrerra trade, aren't you?)

Thanx for beating those Blue Jays 5-3; gets them off our backs for the time being.

Go Yankees!!!

Enjoy it while you can. The Yankees aren't catching the Bloody Sox and the Wild Card will come from the Central this year. You'll be watching the playoffs just like us M's fans - with almost three times the payroll.

I think you're right with the Wild Card, GrizBiz, Detroit & the White Sox are both having a great season. That Jim Leyland really brings out the best of a team it seems. Reminds me a little of Ralph Houck that managed the Yankees back in the early sixties (1961-1963 & 1966-1973); Casey Stengel in the fifties (1949-1960); Joe McCarthy (1931-1946); Miller Huggins in the twenties (1918-1929) & Billy Martin (1975-78; 1979;1983;1985 & 1988); Lou Piniella (1986-1988); Buck Showalter (1992-1995) & Joe Torre (1996-present)...

He'll be hard to beat, that's for sure.

Yanks are too old, and have to many gaps to make it to the post season this year. I love the Ms but I also don't see them making the post season either. In the AL I see it breaking down like this;

East - Red Sox
Central - White Sox
West - As
Wild Card - Tigers (Blue Jays and possibly the Twins could also compete for this spot, if Detroit cools off).

The only real question that the Yankees are facing is how hard to hit the trade market. Hughes is a damn good prospect and if Cashman can keep the Boss off of his back, he will be a nice young building block for the future.

Steinbrenner is not a patient man, though, and he might force Cashman to go after a rent-a-player like Zito or Soriano. It would be a very Yankee-like move to trade Duncan and Hughest for half of a season of Zito. Stupid, stupid, stupid. If the Yankees are going to mortgage the farm, they might as well get Abreau from the Phillies - at least they would have him for a few years.

One thing is for sure - when you are picking up a fat-ass like

The Red Sox, by contrast, have a very nice minor league system to draw on. With Papelbon nailing down the 9th inning, they can afford to have Lester pitch in the #5 slot down the stretch. Beckett has to be a concern but Schilling is back to form and that offense is scary.

In the central, I expect the Tigers to fade a bit late in the season and the White Sox to continue their excellence. Fuck but they are good.

The west is so bad that any of the four teams could win it. The Rangers usually melt in the mid-summer heat but they could go after a starting pitcher like Zito hard. If the A's actually ever get healthy, they could make a run. The Angels are one impact bat like Soriano away from being very dangerous. The Mariners are a year away from being a decent team and two away from being very good but if they ever get around to dumping Crazy Carl and bring up Snelling to DH, their offense will be that much better. If the other teams keep scuffling, maybe the M's could back their way into the post season and serve as the a first round road bump for the White Sox.

I don't see the Oakland A's trading Barry Zito IF they're in the pennant race. The Yankees shouldn't go after him either, not unless they can sign him to a long term contract. That's what happened to the Astros a while back with Randy Johnson; got a player for a half a season, then he bolts for another team (Arizona) in the off-season.

Gad, the Mariners are only four games out of first in their division. Granted, in last place but it would be interesting to see Snelling up there. Primarily as a position player; a player doesn't want to be labelled a DH right from the start of his major league career; at least that's what I hear on a lot of them.

In the same vein, I don't think if I was the GM I would go after Bobby Abreu either. Philadelphia is one of the National League teams I favor & I don't touch them as a going concern. Soriano IS tempting, though; & who is in right field next year? Sheffield? At 37? Ichiro would be nice. But...

Who could pay the price?

July 31st is right around the corner.

But Hughes is too good to trade at this moment.

Hey, completely off-topic, but can ANYone tell me why the term is "recalled" from the minors when (like Jones) the guy is making his major league debut? I could understand Dobbs being "recalled" because he's been up before. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
