actually, beastie, i spoke to citay about this, and he's not nearly as upset as you might presume. thinks marso brings head coaching experience, obvious knowledge of montana, excellent recruiting contacts and a great work ethic to the program. like huse, marso will some day be a head coach of a 1-a program. and while many at montana disliked pat kennedy intensely, let's not let this dislike obscure his contributions to our program--kamaar, andrew strait, jordan hasquet, matt martin and yes, mr. marso, who won lots of kudos during his short tenure with us.
citay is also mightily pleased with the schedule. he never liked mike montgomery's policy of only playing "home and home," and is thrilled not only that we're getting some great national exposure from seattle to orlando against top-flight competition, but that we bring to these games one of college basketball's rising young coaches, genuine big dance cred, several returning letteremen, an outstanding recruiting class--and a real chance to win.
as to the race issue, let me speak for citay on this one. i daresay there is not one person on this board who doesn't believe in the ideal that all men should be treated equal regardless of skin color, and yet it is my personal experience that this ideal has not yet been achieved, in missoula, in america, or anywhere else in the world for that matter. until it has, i remain skeptical of all claims that color no longer matters, especially when that claim is made by a white guy, and just so long as the staff in question happens to be...all white. i laud marso; among others, i would have been just as happy with our own leroy washington. we will get black coaches, and when we do, it will be much to our advantage.
