Don't know how to show tweets or anything like that so the new commit is

Joe Paolina OL 6'7" 289 LBS Poway, CA he tweeted that he is a Griz, If someone could post the tweets it would be appreciated.

It later goes on to explain that Joe is actually part of the 2015 recruiting class and will be here in the fall thanks Bjorn.

+ 5 inches and 60 lbs in one year. Wow. If he has a couple more "growth spurts" like that when he is here....oh boy, I don't know what to tell you.

One word - project.

Most offensive linemen are projects because they either need to put on size, or improve footwork. My question to you is this. Why is he considered a project? I don't know anything about him, so can you tell me why you think he is?

He's played exactly ONE year on the offensive line. A year ago he was 6'2", 225 and was playing tight end and wasn't on ANYONE's radar....then he grew 5 inches and 60 pounds his senior year and actually wasn't moved to tackle until halfway through the season.

Projects to varying degrees - agreed. Not wishing him ill, just that he comes to this fairly late - only started playing in his junior year. Watch his video and then compare it to the two other bigs inbound. Oline play is more than size, strength & smarts - which he has for his age. He's not a natural bender, plays really high. It's going to take a year or more for him to grow into the frame and feel comfortable athletically. Lots to work on - footwork, hand placement, balance, etc. had there been more time to coach him, then less work to do. He needs lots of reps & the ability to take good coaching. Again, he's a Griz and I wish him well. He's got a lot of catching up to do.

Thanks for that. I usually don't watch a lot of recruiting videos because they are edited to show the good and minimize the bad. I tend to wait until I see them play before I get too excited one way or the other. Sounds like he could develop into a player with proper training. Sounds like a late bloomer. Sometimes they wash out, but sometimes the next NFL prospect gets to the griz because he is a late bloomer. Again thanks for the response. I appreciate it.

True. Wags didn't start playing until what, sophomore or junior year of high school?

Same with Brock Coyle if I recall. I think he didn't start playing football until high school as well. He was into competitive skiing before he picked up football.

If the players have the talent and drive, they'll do well.

This dude is 6'8" 289, and didn't receive a Division I scholarship offer, so obviously he's going to be a project. Pretty much all walk-on players (especially OL) are projects.

That said, the dude is 6'8" 289 and not counting against UM scholarship limit, so yeah, I think this is a great pickup.

This is what I was thinking as well. watching the highlights, He's a little forward in his stance, butt needs to be down a bit for balance, power and explosion. His feet are actually not terrible, but he plays off balance in general. Yes he pancaked some players, but he gets pushed around a bit at the end of some of those plays as well if you watch. Can't teach size, so if he loves the game, he could turn into a great pickup.

And he's on academic scholarship, so obviously a smart guy. Win-win if you ask me... :thumb:
