NCAA Investigation

I predict no major violations. Any penalties we have will be self-imposed by Engstrom to further his agenda to try and separate Athletics from the University. This would also please the faculty members who want to see somone stick it to the football program. This would also help Engstrom validate his firing of O'day and Pflugrad.

I was told the NCAA came here to investigate if UM paid or gave legal council (legal counsel rather) to athletes. The whole issue were they "walked the suspect" to the lawyers after last years tazergate. UM legal council met the athletes in the parking lot of the lawyers office, then the missoulian posted pictures of them "walking them to counsel". Even some idiots on this board keep saying UM provided legal counsel which they did not at all.

They interviewed kemps grandfather and demanded to know ALL the gifts Kemp got at his last birthday etc.

They also accused the golf team of taking personal gifts with range finders that were given to UM. The range finders were not given to athletes but to the actual UM golf team and are team property, hence no issue.

Will they find something at all? Maybe. Will it be a body in the closet that Engstrom and company want to destroy UM Football? Very Unlikely.

I wouldn't be suprised if there were secondary violations. That wouldn't upset me either. You could walk into any athletic department and find secondary violations. With exception to Montana State and Michigan of course, just ask their fans.

This could be very much like any audit. The auditors seem to believe there is a violation even if it does not exist and will nose around until they find something. Auditors do not feel satisfied in their work until they find something. There will be an issue found and the NCAA will take action.

NCAA Sanctions are like any other regulatory code; its depth and breadth keep expanding until, at some point, no one person really has a comprehensive idea of what is acceptable and what is not, the opportunity for error approaches nearly 100%, and "interpretation" by the regulatory body offers the opportunity for any program to be found in violation, to the point even that normal behaviors can be "interpreted" to bring a sanction.

Don't forget that Roger Trammell was permanently dismissed from the team, just the opposite of what you predicted, so there's that.
MSU would never allow secondary violations, they are all saints, unlike Carroll, those kids are far from saints.
Ha. Good one.
