Thanks for the link. I had heard from someone that he had a poor attitude and thought he was just going to show up and get handed the job. He couldn't handle having to earn it. Jerome is better off without him.

Not great size anyway, 5'10", 175. Too small to play QB by modern standards.

Same thing was said about Dickenson, and he could still excell in the BSC. :twocents: Not that this guy is any DD.

[Bleep] you. Just look at the immortal Doug Flutie. One of the best who ever lived who never got a real shot because of too many people with THAT bogus idea. And don't bring up that red herring "he can't see over the line." It's the OL's job to open up passing lanes. Besides, a short QB provides lots of misdirection because the defense can't see him, either.

It's long past time for that out-dated stupid piece of discrimination to go to the boneyard where it belongs.

You're preaching to the choir here..... See Super Dave :thumb:

It just comes from me being a short QB. (I'm 5'7".) I was really put out that the dumb-a$$ Bruce Pielstick wouldnt give me a shot because of that size nonsense. At least UOP allowed me to redshirt before they gave up the ghost.

Not that I'm in Flutie's or Dickinson's league, by any stretch. I'd never claim that. I just wanted a chance to play.

SH - OK, big man, exactly how many of the top 25 QBs that were in the recent NFL draft are less than 6 feet tall? Let me help you genius, exactly 1 -- Drew Tate from Iowa at 5-11 3/4 (OK Chris Leak is listed at 5 11 7/8) -- and one is exactly 6' while most are substantially taller. Obviously I am not as smart as you but you might educate all them NFL idiots that being short is not a disadvantage when playing behind 6'8" linemen. Granted these guys don't actually get paid to know what they are doing unlike you apparently. I am not talking about the way it *should be* but the way it IS. Sorry you have to deal with disappointment but GET OVER IT. It isn't all about you.

Dave Dickensen was/is a great QB but all those in denial, he didn't make it in the NFL. So what? It doesn't in any way diminish what he accomplished in his career in my opinion. He certainly made the most of what he was given. If you can't deal with the reality that a 5'10" QB isn't going to make it in the NFL then you have my pity. Unlike you, I don't reject reality and substitute my own.

...all great short qb's must possess...
...speed...intelligence...excellent field vision...
...if you have them all..you will have a shot...
...especially #3..all great qb's must have great field vision...
...one must see everything..all at the same time...
...my guess sh..is that you had the intelligence..did you possess??
...the other two...

...here lay the bones of tilly jones...
...she lived a virgin..she died a virgin...
...no hits..no runs..no errors...

Obviously you can name exceptions to the rule, but his size point, or lackthereof, was a valid one... and no need to attack him for.

The fact is: taller QBs have an instant leg-up to begin with. Whether they take advantage of that or not, and combine it with a work ethic, correct mechanics, reads, etc. is a whole other thing.

No worries. His reaction was one volley in a back and forth that started when he took a shot across my bow and I fired back (I guess I am a bit hyper-sensitive to some of the adjectives he used when describing my opinion). Nevertheless, for the sake of eGriz and everyone that is as bored with this nonsense as me, I am willing to bury the hatchet and move on to more mutally respective dialog if SuperHornet is. So, what say you SH?

Excellent point, Drew. Case in point: Dan McGwire. He was 6'5", but never put the tools together that you mentioned.

BTW, Dave Dickenson didn't "make it" in the NFL because no GM/coach gave him a legitimate shot. I wouldn't be surprised if he would have won several Super Bowls had that gone the other way.

I could rattle off SEVERAL QBs near 5'10" that had good or better than good careers in the NFL. That bogus "you gotta be tall" argument just doesn't pan out. You don't make it on height; you make it on field generalship. If height were the primary requirement, then folk like Eddie LeBaron, Joe Theismann, and Doug Flutie would never have even had a down in the NFL.

I'm with SuperHornet.

I feel the same way about the NBA's attitude towards 6'1" chubby white guys. I've about had it with waiting for the call for the last 25 years.

Sigh.... a dream dies hard. Gimme a minute alone, will ya? :crybaby:
