Northern Arizona guard Gabe Rogers, the Lumberjacks’ leading returning scorer, will miss the first two months of the season with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, according to a story in the Arizona Daily Sun.

“You never know when life’s going to deal you a crooked hand and you’re going to have to figure something out,” NAU coach Mike Adras told the Sun. “It’s unfortunate, but it’ll make Gabe better. … We’re going to have to figure out what to do now, that’s just the reality of where we’re at — somebody else will have to figure it out now and grow up a little quicker than expected.”

My daughter was a thrower and injured her labrum about 11 years ago, when she was in college. It still bothers her to this day and, recently, forced her out of training for a triathlon because she couldn't deal with the shoulder pain while swimming. It can be a nasty injury.

Tough loss for them... they already lost a ton, and Rogers is a potential first team BSC player. They are going to need some young guys to step up big-time.

Shit, it's NAU. They'll still roll out half a dozen guys who can fill it up from 36 feet on a regular basis, just like they do every year.

NAU loses Rogers for 2 months.....

This is going to leave a mark. The one player they couldn't afford to lose. I predict the pre-season schedule to be painful. Big Sky conference schedule with more of the same. A WHOLE bunch of new/young faces this year leads me, right now, to hope for a .500 record and maybe a BSC tourney bid. *sigh*

On a positive note, the new guys get a baptism by fire.

Its kinda like what Jordan Richardson went through last year with Lillard going down, he had to grow up fast.

It might hurt NAU this year, but in the long run, NAU's young dudes will get some great learning experience.
