NAU Hangover

I don't mean to be argumentative but you keep saying the word "whole" and that is what i disagree with, because JJ did not look "bad" to me at all. His stats may have been his worst this year but i liked what i was seeing FROM HIM with regard to his intangibles (again, given the circumstances).

The problem is when the rest of the offense is sucking so bad, you could have the best quarterback in the world and he still wouldn't be able to play as good when the offense is playing like crap. Especially when the o-line isn't protecting him at all. Like mtgrizrule said, he played good with what he had to deal with, but he would have been great had he actually had an offense that did anything on Saturday.

Allot of fans, alum, etc. are feeling very uneasy about this game, and for good reason.

I'm not one who is uneasy.

I actually feel pretty good about the PSU game.
1. GRIZ are at home.
2. GRIZ defense only gave up 2 earned TD's to NAU.
3. Chances of our offense having back to back bad games is pretty low. The offense cannot do much worse. Also PSU's defense is nowhere near NAU's Defense.
4. I doubt our playcalling will be so much about the deep ball, with so little quick passes. I still have no idea why the GRIZ did not call more quick pass plays against NAU. For one reason or the other, I think our offensive coaches over thought the NAU strategy. The whole offense was off badly.

I have a feeling the offense gets back to the basics, coaches get back on the game, and our DEFENSE comes out fired up. :thumb:

5. UM is not likely to give up 2 fumble returns for TD's.
6. UM is not likely to lose 3 fumbles.
7. Hopefully, UM will not have so many key early penalties.
8. Hopefully, UM will not get behind so much that the opponent knows it has to pass, allowing the opponent to go all out on the pass rush and ignore the run.
9. UM's o-coordinators will presumably know what the opponent's coaches will see on the NAU tape and try to take advantage of.
10. Hopefully, UM will focus on just doing their 1/11th job on each play.
11. Hopefully, the opponent is not going to have its breakout game of the season against us.

So what you're saying is we need to HOPE the Griz CHANGE their gameplan on Saturday? HOPE and CHANGE. Now WHERE have I heard that before? 8-) 8-) 8-)

Well if the Griz go in with the same gameplan they used in Flagstaff, the season will be over before it starts.

Perhaps, but my post had nothing to do with the gameplan?

What was wrong with the gameplan at NAU? I actually don't know what the gameplan was?

I assume it wasn't: don't block very well, allow NAU to pressure JJ, fumble 3 times, see how many fumbles can be turned into NAU TD's, have alot of key penalties, try to get several TD's behind, drop some passes, miss some tackles, don't pressure the NAU qb, and give alot of pass receptions.

That about sums it up. I would add to that: telegraph your intention to go deep repeatedly, initiate shitty play-calling tactics, abandon the running game, never change from a base defense and consistently throw 30 yard passes on 2nd & 3rd & short.

Friday night before game day and eGriz has been devoid of smack talk. No PSU fans really. NAU chick even left. We've had two threads about the mascot competition. Never seen it this slow on a game week in the middle of the season. Maybe I should start a move up thread or something.

Agreed... we do straight ahead best. Ram it down their throats between the tackles and use play action to slip Mr Henderson behind the dbs or get Mr Van on an LB in space. How about a few bubble screens? JJ is good but he's not at his best in the downfield game w/o a running game . Back to basics, beat them at the point of attack and we will be fine. :thumb:
