Other than a few too many stupid turnovers, Coach Tinkle has to be very happy with the outcome, and the way the GRIZ played. They took care of business early, and maintained it. The GRIZ not only won, but did so the way a coach wants a team to win on a long road trip. The GRIZ accomplished a lot. They got solid minutes for everyone, which allowed the younger guys grow more and the core players get much needed rest for the Weber State game.
Henderson, and Weisner each hit a 3 pt shot. Other than one stupid travel call, Gregory distributed the ball well, and looked composed out there, and scored his 1st career GRIZ points. His assist to Hutchison for a huge dunk, was SWEET, and showed some nice awareness out there. I believe everyone got 6 minutes plus tonight, except Deshields. I think that was more of Tinkle knowing what Deshields can do with his minutes, and wanting to find out what Gregory, and Henderson can do.
The last 6:50 of the game, consisted of Hutchison, Steward, Henderson, Gregory, Deshields, and Weisner rotation, and they held their own.
I got to admit, watching NAU was painful, and I feel for them. Their offense, and defense was ugly, and no continuity on either end. I hate to be harsh, but I seen no positives in that team tonight. Thankfully, Mitch Strohman (sp?) ranks right up there with Mick, and I love listening to the guy. He makes NAU games great, no matter the play on the court.
On to Weber State with a well rested team, is all we could ask for, going in. I fully expect the GRIZ look to take the ball right at Bamforth, and Lillard, in hopes to get them in foul trouble. I also expect Tinkle to use all our perimeter defenders on those 2.
Weber State is the league favorite still. The GRIZ are playing great of late, and it looks like the GRIZ are going to make it through this tough road trip, without that stinker game, I was expecting. This game should be a classic that comes down to the final possession.
GOOD JOB GRIZ!!!!!
