Murray vs hurry

Murray has shown patience in tight spaces, some power able to get enough yardage to move the chains in short yardage, and his speed are his strengths.
His best throwing game this year was for 300 yards against SDSU in a loss. His yardage per attempt is about 9 yards. He is throwing down field picking up large chunks when he does throw.
He averages 5.7 yards per carry, although he gets good yards per catch 49.6 completion rate. MSU likes to slow things down and just move the chains total offensive plays so far 386 compared to 542 of UM. MSU 23.6 points per game with Murray.

Murray's completion % last year was 44%. This year it's 49%. Many posters on the other side claimed he had improved a crap-ton with his throwing abilities and to expect huge things from his passing this year. I don't see it.

He will throw a beautiful post-corner route on the money for 20 yards on one play. Then the next play, he misses a simple, wide-open drag route by throwing behind a receiver across the middle or throws high on a 10-yard comeback when the receiver has a cushion (wide-open). Mechanics have improved as his release is quicker/tighter but he still gets happy feet, even when he has a clean pocket. He has an opportunity in these next three games to get MSU to 5-4. But if the same inconsistencies continue to show up in big moments for the rest of the season, there are zero reasons Chris Murray shouldn't be in a competition with Tucker Rovig for starting QB duties next year. Zero.

Vim thanks for the post.
If he isn't the future QB, what position do you see him moving to. He is looks to be the best athlete on the team.

Murray would make for a good RB. Only team i saw that was able to contain him on the edge was Washington State. He is easily the fastest guy on the team

Murray could easily be doing what Troy Andersen is doing right now at running back.

The thing that scares the hell out of me about Murray is he is a QB that can kill you with his legs and when you focus on the run he has a wr running wiiiiide open for a easy TD pass. Qbs like Murray are super dangerous inside the ten yard line and on 3rd and long. With his ability to keep plays alive and avoid sacks if he would just keep his eyes downfield he would kill teams with his arm. Sounds like he takes off though instead of looking for receivers.

Let's hope the Griz defense can figure out how to contain a running QB by then...

Agree 100 percent. They ate him for lunch last game with him often spying. Need someone fast like Buss but I know that goofs everything else up. Maybe Dante Olson could be the spy. Great tackler and good speed.

Would think additional DB which would invite run or Banks who is used to interior play with better speed. Who ever is given the job to spy can't get impatient and rush a gap they need to keep back to cover multiple running angles. Even if Strahm didn't have spy responsibilities on every play EWU and PSU QBs ran past him, especially when he would pick a gap and pursue they would run right by with no defenders for yards.
