His best throwing game this year was for 300 yards against SDSU in a loss. His yardage per attempt is about 9 yards. He is throwing down field picking up large chunks when he does throw.
He averages 5.7 yards per carry, although he gets good yards per catch 49.6 completion rate. MSU likes to slow things down and just move the chains total offensive plays so far 386 compared to 542 of UM. MSU 23.6 points per game with Murray.
Murray's completion % last year was 44%. This year it's 49%. Many posters on the other side claimed he had improved a crap-ton with his throwing abilities and to expect huge things from his passing this year. I don't see it.
He will throw a beautiful post-corner route on the money for 20 yards on one play. Then the next play, he misses a simple, wide-open drag route by throwing behind a receiver across the middle or throws high on a 10-yard comeback when the receiver has a cushion (wide-open). Mechanics have improved as his release is quicker/tighter but he still gets happy feet, even when he has a clean pocket. He has an opportunity in these next three games to get MSU to 5-4. But if the same inconsistencies continue to show up in big moments for the rest of the season, there are zero reasons Chris Murray shouldn't be in a competition with Tucker Rovig for starting QB duties next year. Zero.
