MT Division A Football Standings

Polson - What do you know about Livingston, I have heard the least about them among the 4 teams with byes.

Not much. 10 seniors and 10 "big" guys (+200lbs) one @ 6' - 4" 278lbs ! must of been held back 2 or 3 yrs. ;) and a decent running back, a senior at 5-10 200lbs. They don't pass much, approx. 4/game, but run 50 - 60 times/game :o I'd guess their weakness is that they don't have a lot of depth, since it appears their 2s and 3s got scored on, every game except one.

So a solid running offense (avg 41 pts/game) and a solid defense (10 ints & 9 caused fumbles) BUT I think their lower ranking is attributed to their schedule.

Thanks! Anaconda has to get by Columbia Falls first but I am excited that they would draw the Rangers, who are probably the weakest of the 4 division champs.

I think the Heads (6-3) have a good chance against C'Falls (4-4). While C'Falls put up 55 against Libby last week, their defense seems to be a bit suspect this year. Besides, Anaconda will be at home, with what should be a big home crowd to cheer them on. :thumb:

My picks this week...

C'Falls (4-4) at Anaconda (6-3) It's been a rebuilding year for C'Falls. The Cats new coach Jackson Schweikert has implemented an entirely new spread offensive system. Heads have been playing decent football. I don't think C'Falls will be able to contain the Head's running back, Boyd. 35 - 14 Anaconda. Winner gets a trip to Livingston to face Park.

Butte Central (4-5) at Frenchtown (5-2) I'm assuming the Broncs are still running a one dimensional offense. What's up with Frenchtown listed as only playing 7-games? Was one of them completely smoked out? The Maroons D will have trouble stopping that Lebsock wishbone or whatever it is. 42 - 20 Frenchtown. Winner catches a bus to Billings for the inevitable.

Havre (4-5) at Laurel (8-1) The Loco's are on a roll. The only time they've been derailed was against Billings Central. The Ponies have been playing average football this year, but are able to throw up some points periodically, like last week to the likes of 32 in a loss against Park! Laurel at home will be tough to stop though. 41 -14 Laurel. Winner here walks the plank vs. the Polson Pirates.

Hardin (5-3) at Belgrade (6-3) This are two of the most evenly matched teams this week. With nearly identical points for and against this may go down to the wire. Both teams are coming into this with wins, but I'll take Belgrade at home 28 - 21 Belgrade. The honor of winning this game gets you a trip to Dillon.

I agree with all your predictions but the Hardin vs Belgrade game. I believe Hardin wins this one. I'll flip your score around and say 28- 21 Hardin.

Yep, this one could go either way. I went with the intangibles, like the 3hr drive Hardin gets to make, Hardin playing away. I guess we'll see what team shows up for this match.

We will see how Hardin responds to playing in the playoffs on the road. But Hardin beat Park and Park beat Belgrade pretty good. Plus Hardin played Laurel tough. Hardin is very big and good vs the run. Eastern A > Central A.

Hardin pulls it off, with a nice win.

Frenchtown 32, Butte Central 7

Anaconda 32, Columbia Falls 14... good to see the Heads adavance

Laurel 48, Havre 13

Hardin 29, Belgrade 14

So who you got this weekend Polson?

Well, let's see...

Anaconda (7-3) at Park (7-1):
After beating a weak C'Falls last week, the Heads may be in for a bit of a shock against a solid Park team. The Rangers don't pass much, only 37 times this year. They haul the rock w/ an avg. of 7 yds per carry and about 50 times/game! I don't think the Heads will be able to stop the Rangers' running game, but it's their only way to beat these guys. Park's larger OL and DL should dominate this game. The Ranger's lone loss came in their first game away at Hardin 13-20. I hope I'm wrong on this one. 42 - 14 Rangers

Frenchtown at Billings Central (9-0):
Road Trip! It's going to be an uphill battle for the run only Broncs. All the stats point to another Billings Central victory in this match up. Miracles can happen, but sorry to say, I just don't see it in this game. Make me wrong Broncs! 49 - 7 Rams

Laurel (9-1) at Polson (8-0):
In easily, the game of the week, the Locomotives take their train west , in the longest commute this week at 6 hrs., where they'll run head on into a very tough Pirate team. In 2 years, Polson has lost only 1 game in the last 17, and that was a 7 to 6 loss to a tough Miles City team last year. Most of the Pirate's top players are back and hungry to advance. Laurel brings a good solid running game with some passing sprinkled in the mix. They've only thrown about 10 - 15 times per game, but when you lead most games you don't have to throw. Polson's balanced run/pass offense puts up points fast, and against an average Laurel defense (154 pts) this may be Laurel's demise. While Laurel has a 5 pt edge in avg. pts/game (40 vs 35), one can't ignore the Pirate's defense allowing only 35pts all year. Trivia: There are 14 Seniors apiece on these teams. A well disciplined team, Polson will come away with another victory. 28 -14 Pirates Pirates to watch: Colten Lense RB, Eric Williamson DE/OL, Riley Sampson DL/OL, Will Davey RB/DB, & Beau Mills RB/LB

Hardin (6-3) at Dillon (6-1):
Hardin played well on the road last week beating Belgrade. I think the road ends though for the Bulldogs against Dillon, unless they can stop the Beaver's one man show, QB Ben Folsom. At 6'-3" 195, he's hard to stop, but not impossible. Someone at Hardin needs to level this guy. Remember earlier in the year, when Dillon's QB was out w/ a "concussion", they lost that game, 38-17 against Billings Central. I'll guess and say, HC Terry Thomas isn't dumb, and didn't play his star QB in that game, looking down the road for a possible re-match in the finals. Leave it to Beaver, 48 - 7.

Results:

Anaconda at Park: Rangers 48 -13
Hardin at Dillon: Beavs 56 - 12
Frenchtown at Billings Central: Rams 41 - 7
Laurel at Polson: Polson 9 - 7  4 fumbles by Laurel, one on Polson's 1 yard line. 2 - 0 Polson at the half :o crazy Polson defense, hard fought game. Both teams gave it their all.

It sounds like some Griz recruiters will be at the game in Polson, Saturday. Does anyone know if there will be others? Like Tech for example?

Kind of doubt Tech will be there. They play at Southern Oregon this Saturday. I think that is the last weekend of regular season play for Frontier Conference schools.

Results:

Dillon 28 at Polson 7: The Pirates played a tough game, up one point at the half 7 - 6, after blocking Dillon's extra point. 2 questionable calls against Polson, looked like muffed punt/kick returns on Dillon's behalf could've easily been Pirate TD's. Polson failed to score on Dillon's 2 yd line in the 3rd, questionable play calling. Pirates had way too many penalties. I was surprised how one dimensional Dillon really is, or maybe the Pirates are (were) just that good. Polson was w/o two of their Senior starters which lowered the senior ratio to 12 vs 22. Pirate defense (7 ppg) held the Beavers offense (46 ppg) to their lowest scoring game, since they lost against Billings Central 31 - 17 earlier this year. Finally, these Pirates will go down in history as their best finish since 1986.

Park 0 at Billings Central 52: Not much to say here, other than the Rangers ran into a wall, the now rated, (5.3 ppg) best defense in the state. It was 38 - 0 after 3 quarters. I don't see Dillon getting past these guys this year. More on that later...

I kept thinking during last weeks game in Polson, to observe why the Dillon team is so special. I really didn't note anything, other than their dependence on one player, their QB. Overall they're a tall team, with a few 240lb guys, so they're fast right? Wrong. Just average team speed. Their coaching staff seems to be well put together, and probably one of the best in the state. I just didn't see the overall excellence I was expecting, although, having 22 seniors on your team doesn't hurt.

Billings Central brings 17 seniors to the championship game, and a similar roster of size, surprisingly. Not knowing much about the Rams, other than they have the top defense (5.3ppg) and an offensive scoring machine (48ppg), I would have to favor them. After watching a tough Polson defense control last weeks game for 3 quarters even shorthanded, I would suspect Billings Central to win this one. If the Beavs QB is contained on the pass and kept from his habitual tendency, to spin every times he runs the ball up the gut, this game is over.

You can throw this in them mix as well: Home field advantage. Dillon traveled 600 miles last week in a snow storm to and from Polson and then onto Billings this week, can take a toll on a team.

Rams rolls the one dimensional Beavs. 35 - 14

Results:

Rams 37 - 7 The Beavs golden boy, threw one INT and one TD to Bryce Carver's little bro, Austin for their only score. Rams were firing on all cylinders as expected, blowing out Dillon for the Div A championship.
