Bozeman police are investigating an assault early Sunday morning that sent a Montana State University basketball player to the hospital, and the university said other student athletes are believed to be involved.

MSU sports information director Bill Lamberty said the injuries were "severe" and that they may end Blount's season.

Thoughts are with Xavier for a quick recovery.

Yes, hope he makes a full recovery.

Yikes. Here's what MSU beat writer Colter Nunez said on BCN about the assault:

Stay tuned on this. Other MSU athletes implicated. Could spread across every board on this website in terms of sports.

That doesn't sound good....

Heres hoping for a speedy recovery and that they find the guys that did it.
These kids need to learn nothing good happpens that late at night.

Another article on it:
http://www.ktvq.com/news/altercation-between-msu-athletes-could-end-basketball-star-s-season/

BOZEMAN - Montana State's athletic department says men's basketball player Xavier Blount suffered severe injuries in a weekend altercation. The school didn't elaborate on the incident, but confirmed the injuries may end Blount's season.

Court documents say the incident also involves an MSU football player and a track and field athlete. Bozeman Police are still investigating, but Bobcat sprinter Chris Wilson is charged with unlawful use of a license and disorderly conduct. Football player Roger Trammell has visable injuries to his hands and has been charged with misdemeanor assault.

MSU News Services Director Tracy Ellig says Blount was taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital with head and shoulder injuries. The virginia native is averaging almost 13 points a game for the Bobcats.

MSU Director of Athletics Peter Fields said, "Our thoughts are with Xavier for a full recovery from these injuries. We are cooperating as Bozeman and Montana State University Police and the MSU Dean of Students Office investigate this matter."

Fields added, "The behavior alleged is unacceptable. We will not stand for it, and will deal with it in an appropriate manner through our Student Code of Conduct and Student-Athlete Code of Conduct."

The Bobcats host league-leading Weber State Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.

Here's a Bozeman Chronicle update on the story:

Most importantly, my well wishes, and prayers to Mr Blount.

I do not care if it is Montana, or Montana State.......for the sake of the universities, reputations, and the state, "Athletes, please quit this kind of bullshit!!!" It is immature, and every incident, minor and major tarnishes each program, and the state.

As someone that loves Montana, and roots for success from any and everything Montana, I, and many others, beg and plead, please think, and quit all this!

Mr Blount is in my prayers.

This.

Hope he makes a speedy recovery but this is one more reason to say FTC! What in the F$%K is going on at Bozo U? The kid for the football team should be INSTANTLY thrown off the team as well as the track and field guy. Somehow, this incident needs to be made an example with SERIOUS consequences.... The AD needs to get control of this shit immediately.

Well said. This stuff makes me sick to my stomach. The football players from both schools are really not making us (Montana, that is) look to good lately.

I agree. It's sickening. It never was a problem in the 90s and 2000s. What's more sickening is reading the posts from fans of these two schools trying to categorize these criminal acts into buckets....... much like saying "she is a little pregnant".

as a guy who graduated high school in the late 90's and spent the next 6 years ( ) on campus.....i can say crap like this most definitely happened. i'm guessing you weren't spending time with college kids at house parties and bars the same time i was (god i hope not) but it was definitely happening. it was happening in bozeman, happening in missoula, and happening in billings. i pick these 3 towns as i personally witnessed crap like this happening during that time in these places.

i agree with your overall take on this crap....but to say it didn't happen in the 90's or early part of this decade simply is not true.
