Geeezuz, If we can give the name calling a rest for just a minute, I'm actually interested to hear opinions on the pro's and cons of this. I realize this is the kitty stadium suggesting this but for Griz games a positive would be keeping more people in their seats during and after half time. A negative would be drunk ass maniacs!
there have been several studies on this in the recent years and they are pretty interesting. Virginia tech started selling alcohol in their stadium recently and has considered it a success. Kansas state does too and texas is considering it currently.
my take on it is this. it won't add to the drunkenness that occurs in football stadiums on Saturdays. but it won't eliminate them either. kids and even adults are still going to get as hammered as they feel like in the morning and early afternoon leading up until kickoff. if you want to be borderline blacked out you can be.
by the same token if you want to smuggle booze in you can still do that too. however, based on my personal experience it's the people getting more hammered at halftime after already drinking all day that is the problem. this would be eliminated. not only do I think this policy could at least curb some of the drunken idiots I think it would obviously benefit butts in seats come the third quarter.
another benefit is it's much easier to monitor than having to keep track of the entire tailgate lot. gone will be the days that already hammered underage college kids can go out to the tailgate and get even more hammered before coming back in.
that said, this also adds to the problem in some ways. kids who know they can't have another drink after kickoff either because they are too hammered or too young might be inclined to drink even more before the game than they otherwise would. kids who can actually hold their booze and pace themselves throughout the afternoon might binge drink just to get them through the game.
from my point of view now that i'm a little older,

i'll happily pay 6-7 bucks a beer even though I know their grossly overpriced just to be able to enjoy a cold one with friends inside the stadium. it's good for the university and it's good for the team. but i'm not crazy enough to think that this would be a solution to all problems caused by idiots who can't handle their booze!
