MSU Looking at Selling Alcohol at Football Games?

Believe me Brokebacker I have no bobcat envy. I was am native Montanan and strongly object to a hillbilly jingle being associated in any way with the State of Montana.

So you'd rather have a wanabe rap diddy instead? :thumb:

Most games in msu are so friggfen cold it will take more than beer for smart fans to sit in that windy ice box...........wanna bees always looking for a new fork to feed themselves with. So let them fork it!

Friggfen is msu fork field cold!

Geeezuz, If we can give the name calling a rest for just a minute, I'm actually interested to hear opinions on the pro's and cons of this. I realize this is the kitty stadium suggesting this but for Griz games a positive would be keeping more people in their seats during and after half time. A negative would be drunk ass maniacs! ;)

there have been several studies on this in the recent years and they are pretty interesting. Virginia tech started selling alcohol in their stadium recently and has considered it a success. Kansas state does too and texas is considering it currently.

my take on it is this. it won't add to the drunkenness that occurs in football stadiums on Saturdays. but it won't eliminate them either. kids and even adults are still going to get as hammered as they feel like in the morning and early afternoon leading up until kickoff. if you want to be borderline blacked out you can be.

by the same token if you want to smuggle booze in you can still do that too. however, based on my personal experience it's the people getting more hammered at halftime after already drinking all day that is the problem. this would be eliminated. not only do I think this policy could at least curb some of the drunken idiots I think it would obviously benefit butts in seats come the third quarter.

another benefit is it's much easier to monitor than having to keep track of the entire tailgate lot. gone will be the days that already hammered underage college kids can go out to the tailgate and get even more hammered before coming back in.

that said, this also adds to the problem in some ways. kids who know they can't have another drink after kickoff either because they are too hammered or too young might be inclined to drink even more before the game than they otherwise would. kids who can actually hold their booze and pace themselves throughout the afternoon might binge drink just to get them through the game.

from my point of view now that i'm a little older, i'll happily pay 6-7 bucks a beer even though I know their grossly overpriced just to be able to enjoy a cold one with friends inside the stadium. it's good for the university and it's good for the team. but i'm not crazy enough to think that this would be a solution to all problems caused by idiots who can't handle their booze!

I already know where this is going... we have this discussion several times a yeat.

Personally, I wouldn't mind over paying for a few beers if it is going to help towards balancing the school budget.

So...

Let me see if I understand this.

msu wants to ADD alcohol to already drunk, fat and stupid fans... nice.

eGriz moderator posts crap like this... nice.

Lighten up Francis...

The truth be told... If UM did this and even one problem occured, PW and the feds would jump all over it. Alcohol sold by the school is a whole different animal then people drinking at a tailgate. Litigation and huge lawsuits would soon happen.

Good luck to msu if they do this, but the negative would far outweigh the added revenue...

I agree with pretty much everything.

Like you said, it won't eliminate all the problems we associate with being able to leave the stadium and come back, but it will fix a lot of the glaring ones.

I'd like to see us at least try it one season.

pro - I'll be able to buy a beer (when mine run out) in the stadium even if it costs $5 a bottle.

cons - plastic beer bottles, blue bobcat cups, or whatever vessel they serve the beer in will litter the endzone at every bad call by the ref.

will keep people in the stadium but will not guarantee they'll be in their seat. the beer garden will become one large standing room only area.

will not be able to leave to get a re-energizing belly full of my 5-alarm chili at halftime to soak up the beer I've been drinking pre-game and during the game thereby causing my bloodstream to rely solely on the alcohol and making me more of an intolerant a$$hole. ;)

won't deter people from sneaking in flasks and/or 6-packs so therefore the only thing it really does is: generate some moderate revenue for the athletic program; and alter the tailgating atmosphere so that people forgo all of the pregame festivities in an effort to shotgun another beer, eat some better tailgating food, and cause a logjam at the entry gates when everyone tries to enter late.

I would assume that drinking beer in your seats would be allowed, I didn't even consider being required to stay in a beer garden.

It's easy. Beer is good. Mo beer is bad.

ya I guess i'm looking at this like they'll be allowing beer in your seats. I assume if they pull the trigger on this you'll be able to get beer at all the concessions. if they simply have a beer garden you must sit in like eastern does I really don't see the point.

What they are saying is that the liability is already there, since they allow drinking at the tailgates, but security feel that this would hep control the situation and reduce that liability so it would all be better from that stand point.

it's a great idea and might create solutions to problems caused by over consumption. plus it would be added revenue which is always good. I have been on this bandwagon forever.
No..... :loser: you slugs will pack in Schlitz inside your bib overalls.. :egriz:

What's the deal 2506. Why the negative tone when this was relatively new info and it went on to create a realitively civil conversation for egriz. You keep losing credibilty. It might be time to change your egriz name and start over. May I suggest dumba$$ cat2506.
Sorry it has been a long day, I am not in a good mood and I took it out on dumba$$ cat2506.
I really dont give a rip today. I think I might have what ever alpha is drinking.
Oh and I vote for developing the revenue, they are going to drink anyway. The university may as well make some money.

You say that almost as if it were a bad thing....confused?

I bet Booz will be sold in Bozo at Cat games! Sad deal is however UM will follow suit and announce the same later. Sort of like the whole stadium light thing. Cats announce lights and then ours go up. The real kick to the gut would be Cats announce there going FBS and Griz must as well as we are "tied at the hip". Good ok Rolls Royce and his closed minded closed closet door thinking.!

State College has a good president capable of a transition to FBS. The Amish guy....I don't think so..
