MSU Issues Press Release Encouraging Sportsmanship

I see where Montana State University issued a press release today encouraging sportsmanship among Brawl attendees. I imagine this happens every year and we likely do the same. However, it seems like the attitude of Cats fans gets more mean-spirited every year.

I used to go down to Bozeman each year the game was held there. While I endured a lot of good-natured ribbing as I cruised through the tailgates in my Griz garb, I was never fearful for my personal safety. That is no longer the case and after my last time there, I vowed I would never go back. I am in my 60's and to have drunk 40 year olds getting in my face and screaming about how they should kick the shit out of me for having the audicity to wear maroon to Bobcat stadium is absolutely no fun. I understand college kids being over the top, but once you are out of college, that behavior is ridiculous.

I know our fans are not saints and I don't need a slew of Cats posters coming on here and telling me how bad Griz fans are. This is a game, not war. Fans on both sides should be able to attend the game and have fun without fear of being accosted.

I have a...I guess he's a friend sorta...who is a die hard Cat fan. He explained to one of our other Griz fan buddies why Cat fans like him can be so insufferable. His explanation was that the 16 year streak was so frustrating to those who lived through it that they really became bitter over it. I suspect that a lot of older Cat fans went through that and passed that bitterness down. Griz fans never went through that kind of year after year frustration, so for us, it's a rivalry game, maybe a little more heated than most but not much more. For them, it's the biggest game of the year, every year.
