By Gazette News Services

BOZEMAN - The All-American Football Foundation honored Montana State Athletic Director Peter Fields with a General Robert R. Neyland Outstanding Athletic Director Award, the Association announced.

Fields, Montana State's athletic director since 2002, has overseen a highly successful period in the school's athletic history.

During his time, the Bobcats have won a pair of Big Sky Conference All-Sports Trophies, a Sterling Savings Bank Big Sky President's Cup as the league's top program in athletics and academics, and 10 Big Sky Conference team championships.

A 1979 University of Maine graduate, Fields served in the athletic administrations at Missouri, Toledo and Kent State. A standout wrestler who has been inducted into his alma mater's Athletics Hall of Fame, Fields has been active in several Bozeman and statewide service activities, including serving on the Montana Special Olympics Advisory Board. He was chosen the College Athletic Business Management Association's 2004 Manager of the Year.
