A guy named Jason Churchill that runs the Mariners ITP board and has good contacts within the Mariner organization is saying that Bobby "the Doctor" Livingston is going to be called up from AAA Tacoma to make a start in one of the next two games in Chicago. He also says that Joel Piniero may well be wearing another uniform within 48 hours to make room for Livingston. He also says that Guardado might be headed to the DL.

I read this guy's stuff fairly regulary and can testify that he's usually accurate when reporting inside info. He has got some things wrong in the past but I believe this one. Joel's value will likely not get any higher than it is right now. He's had some good results but his velocity has never come back and watching him pitch, I get the impression that he's getting a little lucky.

Rampant speculation is that Piniero will be packaged with one other guy from the 25 man roster like Reed or Lawton. A Reed/Piniero package would probably net something nice.

Or maybe they are ready to either dump Meche or send him to the bull pen. Meche's line looked ok after his last start but it was a high-wire act the whole night. The few times that the camera showed Hargrove in the dugout, he looked like he had eaten some bad shell fish. I would not be disappointed to see Meche out of the starting rotation. If Eddie is going on the DL, moving Meche into the pen and promoting Livingston makes some sense.

FYI - the Doctor is a left handed pitcher of the Barry Zito school. He doesn't throw hard but his pitches are all nasty enough that you can't really call him a finesse guy. His fastball used to sit in the low 90's but he's sacrificed some velocity for more movement to good effect. His curve is Zito-esque and virtually unhittable when he's on. His changup is the dead fish variety, ala Bobby Matritch's. It looks like the fastball until it gets 5 feet from the plate and then it dies and tails off strait down He's pretty much dominated every level of the minors that he's pitched in, although he only has half a dozen or so starts in Tacoma.
