M's designate Everett for assignment

and call up Snelling, just as many of us suggested they do weeks ago. Hopefully they can still trade CE for something -- ANYthing -- but we'll see.

I don't believe the story references it, but I'm pretty sure that Carl had a clause that would have auto-renewed his contract for next season with a few weeks additional ABs. That pretty much makes this a no-brainer.

Finally, it took them long enough to do so

Snelling probably wont be up long. The M's traded Choo to Clevland for Ben Broussard. He is currently hitting .321 with 13 homers and 46 RBI's. He'll replace Everett as the DH against RH pitchers.

I like that move!

They've been talking about that clause on sportspot.net, a vesting clause as I recall, he would've hit it in August by one guys calculations.

Oh yeah, by the way

YYYYYAAAAYYY!!!!!

A good move, but is it too late of a move?

With sixty games left in the season & the Mariners only 3 1/2 games out of first in their division? You gots plenty of time left to reach the playoffs. Just keep beating up on those Blue Jays & Red Sox teams.

Go Yankees!!!

We would've won that Yankees series too if it wasn't for that blown call at first.

Sorry, didn't see that particular game there, 'UMclassof2002' & 'getcrunk.' I hate it when umpires destroy the integrity of the game. As if that was the only thing to worry about, that is.

I was wondering thought, since 1968 the pitching mound has been lowered from 15" to 10" I believe. Does anyone think that difference should be taken into consideration when viewing hitting & pitching records? & would one think that may also contribute to certain injuries incurred by the MLB pitching staffs?

I know that there is more than one call that decides a game, it is just that the timing of it couldn't be worse. Bottom of the ninth with one out - and he BLEW the call, not really even a bang-bang type play.

No, I don't think the records book should change when the game is altered in the interest of maintaining competitive balance. Not a big fan of asterisks.

Interesting thought - the injury angle. Personally, I think that the decision to throw from the stretch with a guy on first has done more damage than anything. Watch those old-school pitchers in historical footage and they never threw from the stretch. Gibson had that long windup and high leg kick every pitch of his career. Those pitching motions rely less on shoulder/elbow torque and more on driving the ball with a whole-body motion. When Carew and later Henderson really started exploiting the slow time to the plate and stealing tons of bases, pitching coaches responded with the "pitch from the stretch" bull shit. I hate seeing a pitcher change his mechanics with a guy on first. That no windup, all arm delivery just has to be tough on a guy.
