Moyer Traded

It was just announced during the game tonight that Jamie Moyer has been traded to the Phillies for 2 single A pitchers. This trade makes alot of sense considering the major slide the M's are in right now, but im really sad to see Moyer go. He was the winniest pitcher in M's history and I was really hoping he would retire a Mariner.

On a postive note, this opens up a spot in the rotation for someone from Tacoma to fill. I doubt they will put Joel back in, but if Woods really struggles in a couple starts, theres a chance he gets one more chance.
 
It's too bad, really. I know it's a business decision, but Jamie Moyer does a lot for the Mariners franchise and Seattle. He should have had the right to finish his career as a Mariner. The M's front office should have tried to unload Piniero instead.
 
It just Jamie's kind of a fixture in Seattle, and in the community, or at least through things like The Jamie Moyer Foundation, I would presume so. Crazy....
 
I think its safe to say that this will be Moyers last season. The M's tried to trade him last year, but because hes a 10/5 guy, he could block any trade. He did so because he wanted to pitch in seattle again this season, thus not wanting to move his family. Now, knowing this could be his last season, he accepted the trade so he could be in some kind of playoff race.

Who on god's green earth would want Pinata? He's quite possibly the worst starter in the league right now.

The M's did Jamie a favor by trading him. As a 10-and-5 guy, he had a complete no-trade clause. He wanted to go to Philly. He's from there, still has family there and the team is only 2 1/2 games out of the wild card race. If this is Jamie's last year, he gets to go out the way he should - pitching in games that matter. If the Phillies can squeek their way into the playoffs, he will have the opportunity to end his career in the post season. That's a whole lot better than pitching meaningless games down the stretch for a team that has less life than a gutted salmon.
 
I think I heard something during the game last night that the Phillies have already signed him for the '07 season.
 
Jamie can still win games but he needs 5+ runs to do it, the Phils are one of those teams that could probably do that for him.

Woods had a decent start today....

Hargrove's 2002 Oriols team finished the year with a 4-42 stretch of putridness. The Mariners look to be following that template.

Sad...how did this club get to this point so fast.



seems like only yesterday we were hopeful of a World Series.
