Junior Bergen joins a long list of relatively recent primarily special teams players in the NFL. Kicker Dan Carpenter, Pro Bowl returner Marc Mariani and Junior’s current coach Colt Anderson at gunner all come to mind. Does any other school in the FCS have similar special teams players at the pro level? As far as I know we have not had any pro long snappers or punters yet.

Back when specialists played multiple positions, I have seen him mainly classified as a tight end but was punter his primary NFL position?

This is what I see on the interweb "After going undrafted in the 2000 NFL draft, Neil was signed by the Atlanta Falcons. He played 6 games behind Dan Stryzinski at punter, and dealt with injury problems for some of the season."
All I got is stats from the Pro Football Reference web page. You got more details than me. Statistically the NFL recognizes him as a TE but I’m guessing Atl’s plans for him was to punt when needed plus he can block.
